Foundation / Year 1

The Foundation and Grade 1 students have been continuing going to the Library on Monday’s. They have been practising being respectful towards others while in this space, through being quiet and ensuring they put items (such as books and cushions) back when they are finished with them. Sully has also been joining us for Library visits, he has been a calming presence during this time, often falling asleep!

During Inquiry this term our focus has been on being sustainability and caring for the environment. Students have been helping out in the school garden by watering, tidying up fallen leaves and weeding.

Year 2

During our Inquiry topic this term, we have been learning about all the ways we can reduce our environmental footprint. We have also learnt lots about recycling, reusing and reducing. Thank you to those parents who donated reusable items from home for us to use, the students thoroughly enjoyed this part of our topic. One of our tasks was to plan, label and create something using a range of different reusable items. Below are some creations made by the students.

The Year 2 students also reached their ‘Gotcha’ goal for the term - 350+ so they excitedly chose to watch a movie of their choice, along with some treats. We have been so proud of all the Year 2 students for trying their best to be responsible, respectful and safe learners as well as work hard to model and demonstrate our fortnightly blitz inside and outside the classroom. Congratulations Year 2’s, we’re super proud of your efforts!

Year 3/4

This term, in Inquiry, we've been exploring endangered animals and how we can protect and raise awareness for them. The students were tasked with creating a poster that used minimal words to convey a powerful message about the critical situation these animals face. Here’s what our students had to say:

Emily and AJ: “ We enjoyed working together to create a paper mache Lion to raise awareness for the Lions who are extremely endangered”

Jess and Josie: “I liked learning about the Arctic Fox because I got to learn a lot of interesting facts that I didn't know about for them and was able to raise awareness for them.”

Ella and Mardi: “ We loved learning about the Sea Turtle and creating a positive and negative model that represents human impact and the amount of Sea Turtles that are becoming extinct.”

Alex: "I learnt about the Great White Shark and it is an endangered animal and we have to learn how to protect it because they have a job in our oceans."

Sophie: "I learnt there are more endangered animals in the world than I first knew about and we need to stop polluting our earth so they can be protected. There are campaigns to help the world understand why it is important to care for our animals."

Billie: "I was learning about the Irrawaddy Dolphin and how it is endangered. It is very important to be aware of how and why we need to be responsible in our world."

Georgia: "Learning about the endangered animals I believe that it is important that we care for our world and we all have a job to protect the animals. The WWF helps us to learn more."

Year 5/6

Literacy

The students have been working diligently on their "Fox 2" sequels during our text-based unit, creating interesting and creative narratives. They had the option to bind and present their stories in the form of a picture book. The students have written these sequels thoroughly, with some even eager to continue writing additional parts to this captivating book. They have thoroughly enjoyed completing this task.

Numeracy

The daily revision slides have continued to reinforce students’ understanding of all mathematical domains, with a particular emphasis on place value. Our current unit on fractions is coming to an end. Students have been investigating the link between decimals, fractions, and percentages and will conclude the unit with a ‘maths essentials’ post-assessment. It has been an engaging and sometimes challenging area that has seen many students learn new strategies to problem-solve.

Inquiry

Our natural disasters and extreme weather research project has kept all students captivated as they learn many interesting facts about weather patterns and how they impact the environment. We look forward to seeing their final presentations in the coming weeks.

Religion

Understanding the significance of the seven sacraments during our “Sacramental Life” unit has enabled students to create posters that identify their importance in society and the associated symbols. The students have used their creativity to present these in interesting ways, showcasing their creative flair. They have thoroughly enjoyed completing this religion unit and have learned many interesting facts about how these sacraments are celebrated.

Special Events

The senior students have been super busy this week.

On Tuesday, Ms Lupa and Mrs Kerlin walked with students to Rochester Secondary college for a community college experience. Students were able to experience what the school has to offer. They were grouped in their classes to complete a number of subject rotations including; drama, cooking, art, and science. The children had a fabulous day and were extremely well behaved!

On Wednesday Miss Eade accompanied some of the senior boys to the Campaspe Football carnival. The team showcased their skills and gave every game their best! We played a total of 5 games where we won 3. We were super proud of their determination, effort and sportsmanship.

On Thursday, all year 5 and 6 students attended the Kyabram Winter Sports. Students had the choice of netball, football or euroball. They were then teamed with students from other schools where they participated in their chosen sport.
