Learning in 5/6L

Miss T

Sexuality education in schools is part of a broader health & respectful relationships curriculum aligned with child safety standards aimed at maximising children’s health and wellbeing.

Last week middle and senior students began a series of workshops concerning human development with Sue Pain. So far we have only had 2 out of the 3 sessions but they have provided an excellent opportunity to share values and beliefs about human sexuality and respectful relationships.

'About Real Life' presentations have been presented sensitively and are respectful of the values and beliefs of the students. Each session has provided an excellent trigger for discussion about growing up and respectful relationships.

“Youth today are subjected to overwhelming amounts of information, images and opinions. Not all are helpful or accurate, so more than any generation before them, they need to be well informed, proactive in their lives and keep a positive focus on their future.”                                                                                                                    - Sue Pain

Some feedback from students in 5/6L so far…

Zara B :

Last week we had Sue pain from real life come to our school and talk about puberty/changes that commonly occur at our age.  I think it's important for kids at 10-12 to learn about their bodies and how to care for them.

Neth:

Last week, Sue Pain from About Real Life came to speak to 3’s to 6’s. She talked about human development and puberty, the changes that will start to come as early as 8 or 9yrs old.

Oliver:

We learned about the changes of puberty and the path of life. Sue also told us about some possible side effects of puberty such as heightened bullying and feeling not comfortable with ourselves, especially in Year 7. Friends also are on shaky ground!

Lilian:

Last week Sue Pain came to our school to teach us about human development. It is important for kids our age to learn about our body so we can be prepared for the future and to know it is normal for change.

Eli :

The 5/6s had an incursion with Sue Pain about human development. We also learned about the stages of Puberty. It was pretty interesting to know about all of this. I think we should all know this because we need to know what will happen in the future.

Madison:

Sue Pain taught us many things (human development and the human body facts) that we should be knowing at our age. The things that Sue taught us are really important for our human wellbeing when we grow up.

Catia:

Last week we had Sue Pain from About Real Llife come to teach us about puberty. She was teaching us about all the natural changes in the human body. I think it is really important for 10-12 year olds to know how to take care of their bodies . Even though there were some giggles, I really enjoyed learning about our bodies.

Aaliyah:

Last week the 5/6’s had an incursion with Sue Pain. Sue was from ‘About Real Life’. Sue taught us about human development.. It is important to know about this so we can be ready for it, when it happens. We did some activities to know more about ourselves.

Talya

Last week all the 5/6s had an incursion and learnt about human development with Sue Pain. She played a few activities to learn more about us. She taught this so we could get ready for what is to come in the future .Sue Pain has her own business, About Real Life and goes to lots of schools to teach about the amazing human body.

Anthonio:

About Real Life taught us and the 3/4’s about human development. We also learnt about ways to be calm because wellbeing is also important. Sue Pain did some activities with us to show this.

Arielle:

A couple days ago, we had an incursion with Sue Pain from her business ‘About Real Life’. She came to St. Leonard’s to talk about the importance of human development at our age. She talked about knowing about human changes/puberty as well as a bit of our mental health. It was interesting as well as a bit different to what our normal incursions are like. We’ve had 2 lessons so far but we’re excited for the third one in a few weeks.. I believe it’s important to know about this at a teen age because it's good to know this before entering a new stage of our lives, adulthood.

Antoni:

Last week Sue Pain from About Real Life came to teach us about puberty and how to keep our body parts safe. She showed us all the changes we can go through in puberty. We all enjoyed the lessons.

Elisha:

Last week the ⅚’s had an incursion about human development. This learning is valuable because we get to know more about what happens to us when we start to become teenagers. We now know what happens when we start to go through puberty.

Zara J :

Last week the ⅚’s had an incursion with Sue Pain about human development. I think it is very important to learn how our body grows and changes throughout our lives.

Axel:

Last week Sue Pain from About Real Life came in for an excursion and she taught ⅚’s and ¾’s all about Puberty and body parts. This is important because we will soon become teenagers and adults.

Emily:

On the 4th and the 5th of May we had Su Pain come out for us to tell us things about human development. The reason why we are learning about human development is because everyone is going to go through puberty at this age, so if we learn about it now we will know what is coming.

Abel:

Last week Sue Pain from About Real Life came to the school and taught the 5/6s about puberty and human development. These changes affect both genders, male and female, and change our mood and other stuff. The lesson was really educational and helps for the future. Our next lesson is on the 18th of June.

Marco:

Last week on the 4th and 5th of June, Sue came to our school from About Real Life to teach us about puberty. It is  important to learn about puberty because we need to learn about these things that happen very soon to all of us.

Divine:

In week 7, Sue Pain from About Real Life, came to our school to teach the 5/6s and 3/4s about human development and the aspects of puberty. This was all about changes in mood, emotions and our body parts. We learnt about this because some of the students are almost or experiencing this stage of life right now. This is a very important part of our lives because it prepares us for the second stage of life, Adulthood. We have had 2 lessons and our next one is on the 18th of June. This is exciting but some people may disagree because talking about stuff like this may seem awkward for some people, funny for others, and maybe even both!

Ria:

Last week Sue Pain from About Real Life came for an incursion. She came and taught about the aspects of puberty that change our body as we grow. She taught us about the human body and about mental wellbeing.

Dylan:

Last week we had 2 incursions with Sue Pain from About Real Life. She talked about the human body, human development and all the changes we can go through during puberty for males and females. Her classes were for only 3/4s and 5/6s and they were very interesting so say the least!  I'm looking forward to our next class on the 18th of June.
