Year Two - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

We had lots of fun dressing up as our favourite book characters and reading the shortlisted books from Book Week 2024. The theme for this year was 'Reading is Magic' and we definitely felt the magic of reading this week! Thank you to all the families who were able to watch the parade, we loved seeing the siblings dressed up too.

Next week we are learning...

Religious Education: We are learning about the Church being a visible image of God and looking at the features of our St Thomas Church.

Mathematics: We are looking at strategies to multiply and divide by one-digit numbers using repeated addition, equal grouping, arrays and partitioning to support a variety of calculation strategies.

English: We will be looking at using visual representations of characters' reactions, speech and thought processes. We are also continuing our work on expanding simple sentences with an adverb. Our book focus for the week will be on the topic of Father's Day and all students will have the opportunity to make a card for their Father or special person.

Spellingfumble, skittle, rattle, freckle, bumble, angle, castle, bristle, finally, cousin
Vocabularycreatures, magic, kindness, believe, sorrow, lonely, should

Auslan: This week we are learning that signs that relate to thinking such as remember, know and wonder are signed around your head.

Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR: This term we are learning about positive gender relations and will look at identify and practicing respectful and gender friendly behaviours.

Reminders

As part of our Integrated Unit on Performing Arts, we will be having an incursion on Thursday 5th September with a focus on World Dance. We will be looking at and taking part in different dance styles from across the world. Students please wear PE uniform on this day. 2A and 2B will still take part in their usual PE lesson too.

On Thursday 29th August we have our Father's Day morning. Any special person is invited to attend. We have morning tea provided for adults and a fun activity for students to complete with their special person in our classrooms. For those who are unable to have a special person attend, they will still be able to participate and bring home their creations to share.

Just a reminder that while we are not a nut-free school, we have many students with allergies in our community, including one student with anaphylaxis. Please be conscious when packing lunch boxes.

We have become aware of the increasing level of involvement from students in games, movie, music, etc that is not age appropriate. These can impact on social and emotional learning within the classroom. COMMON SENSE MEDIA is a valuable resource which provides information to parents on the suitability of various media and provides some talking points and guides for parents.
