šŸ“š Holiday Reading: Cozy Up with a Good Book at Home šŸ”ā„ļø

Ā

Dear Parents,

Ā

As Term 2 comes to an end, it's easy for children to slip into full holiday mode and put reading aside. However, the break is also a golden opportunity to foster a love for reading and learning outside the classroom. Encouraging your kids to engage with books over the holidays can be both fun and educational. Here’s how to make holiday reading an enjoyable and enriching experience for your child.

Ā

1. Create a Holiday Reading List

Kick off the holidays by creating a special reading list together. Choose books that cater to your child's interests while also mixing in some educational titles.

Ā

2. Make Reading a Family Activity šŸ‘Øā€šŸ‘©ā€šŸ‘§ā€šŸ‘¦

Turn reading into a shared family experience. Here’s how to involve everyone:

  • Family Reading Time: Set aside a specific time each day where everyone reads their own book together.
  • Book Discussions: Talk about what each person is reading and share thoughts and favourite parts.
  • Read Aloud: Choose a book to read aloud as a family. Each member can take turns reading chapters or playing characters.

Below is a Fluency Feedback Chart that our students use during partner reading. You may like to use this card to give your child some feedback about their reading.

Reading during the school holidays doesn’t have to be a chore—it can be a joyful and enriching part of your child’s holiday experience. Happy reading!

Kind regards
