Spotlight on Learning

Room 1

This term in Room 1, students have been building their bank of tricky words so they can read and write sentences. Tricky Words (also referred to as heart words or sight words) are words that are difficult for young readers to read because they follow unusual spelling patterns, contain new sounds and graphemes or don't follow ordinary phonemic rules.

As we acquire new tricky words, we add them as leaves to our tree. The words are added with Velcro so students can access and remove them for their independent writing.
