Learning in Action

Literacy:Students have finished the term working on their individualised reading goals, practising heart words and revising accuracy and fluency strategies. Students met Gabby Goat and Queenie Quail to learn the letters Gg and Qq. Students have learnt all the letters of the alphabet now and had a Little Learners Celebration Day.  In Writing, students used their creativity to choose their own topics to write and draw about.

Preview - Next term, students will be introduced to Poetry and Personal Narratives. They will be exposed to a range of comprehension strategies to compliment the genres and even have a go at writing their own.

Maths: This term students have been working on their individual Maths goals and focused on adding and subtracting numbers using various strategies. Students have also learnt about location words and being able to describe where something is. Over the last few weeks, students have engaged in the topic of measurement and completed activities to distinguish between objects that are longer or shorter.

Preview- Next term students will learn about teen numbers, ordinal numbers and we will revisit addition and subtraction.

Inquiry:The Preps have had an amazing term learning about the people and places in our community. We spent the past week creating our community posters and puppets, which they enjoyed sharing with you during Celebration Morning.

Preview- Next term we will be doing a history unit, looking at our own personal histories and those of others.

Wellbeing:During Friendology, students explored how to ‘be a firefighter, not a firelighter!” We discussed ways we can put out Friendship Fires. We worked through step-by-step how to resolve conflict with a friend and how to respond to hurt feelings.

In Respectful Relationships we discovered that problems are a normal part of life. We increased our ability to identify a problem. At the end of this session we reflected on this experience and recognised that there are solutions to problems.

Preps have been applying their Friendology and Respectful Relationships skills in our Collaborative Games sessions. During this time students have the opportunity to work/play with their fellow students in a safe environment and practice working together and building relationships.

Preview- Next Term we will continue to explore the Friendology program and how to work through friendships. In the Respectful Relationships program we will continue exploring problem solving and stress management.

Celebration Morning

This term in Inquiry Prep learnt about people and places with a particular focus on our local community. It was wonderful to see the students showcasing their learning about some of their favourite places in the community. Thank you for coming and supporting your child. They loved sharing their learning with you!

Little Learners Day

On Thursday the 27th of June, the Preps had an amazing day celebrating Milo Monkey’s Birthday Surprise, after finally meeting all the characters and learning every sound in the alphabet! We had a ball dressing up and parading around to the Little Learners’ songs. Thank you for all your efforts in making costumes, the Preps looked fantastic!

Dance Specialist - Term 2

This term students from prep- grade 2 participated in the art of dance. They explored locomotor and non-locomotor movements, as well as concepts such as time, space, rhythm, coordination, feelings, and shape to communicate and express themselves.

Through structured exercise, improvisation, and collaborative choreography, students developed not only as dancers but also as confident individuals who learnt about the importance of teamwork. Through this process students faced challenges and successfully overcame them.

Over the past five weeks, students have been immersed in learning traditional dances from various countries, learning the meaning behind each cultural dance and the steps involved to create each beautiful story. This exposure enhanced students’ curiosity about cultures, fostering a deeper understanding and appreciation for diversity. Irish chain dancing in Preps introduced elements of Irish culture through its lively and rhythmic movements, offering students a glimpse into traditional Irish dance forms and music. Grade 1 focused on Brazilian and Colombian movement, students delved into the vibrant rhythms and expressive styles of these cultures in which were embedded into their dance. Finally Grade 2 were introduced to the lively Greek ‘Zorba’ with its energetic steps and celebratory spirit.

Overall, this unit allowed students to not only develop dance skills but also nurture a broader worldview, encouraging students to embrace and respect different cultural expressions and traditions.
