Recycling for Refugees

Was too windy and cold last week to count cans, and the ground too wet. But it’s given time to take stock. The school raised $55.20 through recycling from the fete; $23.70 on the first week the children helped count cans (& glass and plastic bottles, etc); and the other week we counted 50 glass bottles, 82 plastic bottles, 332 aluminium cans and 78 Tetra boxes. Do the maths. We’re getting there - great work SKiPPS!

THANK YOU to all who are bringing in the 10c deposit scheme containers, you are making a difference, and helping me to help welcome and settle an Afghan refugee family who arrive in Melbourne in early August.

The collection boxes are full again and I’ll be at the school on Wednesday, guided by the children to sort and count at Pranzo.

Also, if any are interested, I was interviewed on ABC radio recently, about the sort of work I do at schools and for communities, and why. The interview was on a Friday morning, straight after I’d presented at the SKiPPS assembly, and I was asked about the chicken house I built at your school, with the help of children. Some SKiPPS children are part of the story, and I certainly feel very nurtured – cared for – by your school community.

The interview can be heard, here: The power of the extra dad - ABC listen

And if you haven’t seen the little film I made with my brother, about sorting A LOT of cans in a public park, please do. It features a few SKiPPS stars! Why I dumped a whole lot of 'waste' in a public park. (youtube.com)

Many thanks,

Dugald
