BE INVOLVED, BE CONNECTED

I can’t quite believe that we've reached the midpoint of the year already! During this term, there has been remarkable progress in enhancing teachers' expertise in the science of reading. We're delighted to observe our teachers leveraging DIBELS (Dynamic Indicators of Basic Early Literacy Skills) data to facilitate tier two instruction for reading focus groups.

You may have seen reports that starting in 2025, schools will be required to dedicate 25 minutes daily to systematic synthetic phonics and phonological awareness from Prep through year 2. I'm proud to share that we're already in alignment with this initiative, driven not by compliance but by our commitment to evidence-based practices.

I couldn't be prouder of our staff, including teachers and education support personnel, who consistently demonstrate a steadfast dedication to continuous learning throughout our journey.

SUCCESSFUL GRANT

The South Melbourne Park Primary School community extends its heartfelt gratitude to the City of Port Phillip Council for their generous support through the 'Active Travel matched grant' of $1,100. This funding has been instrumental in acquiring new scooter racks for our school, which are now utilised daily. These racks have significantly improved our bike and scooter parking facilities and encourage active travel to school.

THANK YOU!

We would like to thank Education Support Officer, Mrs Ahlam Elakkoumi for the support and care she has shown our children. Ahlam has provided years of social, emotional and academic support for many students. She has been successful in finding a position 5 minutes from home which is wonderful for Ahlam and her family. We will miss her dearly and wish her all the best.

ENROLMENTS

Do you have a child starting Prep next year? If so, it’s time to enrol. Please download the enrolment form here or pick up a copy from the office. Enrolments are due by July 26th.

READY, SET, LAUNCH

It has been a pleasure this week, to attend so many launches of curiosity learning across the school.  Thank you to the many parents, carers and family members who came along to share in our children’s achievements. We saw some incredible pieces of writing including procedural texts, information reports and explanations. We saw lightscapes, musical inventions, digital products, dioramas, posters and books. It was wonderful to see so many children feeling a sense of pride in their learning.

WELCOME!

I am thrilled to announce the appointment of our new Art teacher (3-6), Jesica Obushak. Jessica will be working on Tuesdays and Wednesdays and is really looking forward to meeting the students and their families.

A message from Jessica…

Hello, I am Jessica Obushak. I’m eagerly looking forward to working at South Melbourne

Park Primary School. I’ve taught in both primary and secondary settings for many years in South Australia and Victoria, mostly focusing on English teaching. In 2020, I shifted my focus to art and design and began part-time studies in Interior Architecture. I am passionate about art, design, architecture, and education. When students engage their creative minds, the classroom becomes a dynamic and inspiring environment. I believe in fostering connections with my students, sparking their curiosity, and maintaining a collaborative atmosphere with the school community. It will be wonderful to begin my journey at South Melbourne Park Primary School with the students

I hope you all have a lovely rest with family and friends over the break. We look forward to an exciting term 3, ahead!
