Stage 3 Excursion to NSW Parliament

Mrs Choueiri

Here are a few excerpts written by our Year 5 students about their experiences visiting NSW Parliament.

After a 1 hour drive to the city, we arrived at NSW Parliament House where we were greeted by our guides. First, we went into the House of Representatives and then we did a role play about whether students and teachers should go to school on a Saturday. There were 2 debating teams, agreeing and disagreeing. After that, we went to the Senate and role played another one on the same topic.

When we were done, we went for a walk to Hyde Park where we had our lunch, then to the Hyde Park Barracks Museum to learn about how the convicts lived. Firstly, we saw a room full of hammocks that convicts used to sleep in. There were even tools that convicts used for building and the remains of the building before the convicts were moved onto another location.

We then had our recess and headed back to school. The excursion was lots of fun and a great experience for all students and teachers.

The day of the city NSW Parliament excursion was an amazing experience for the students of SJPPS. We visited  Parliament House and did role plays based on real experiences while the kind directors assisted us throughout the event.

After a nice, long lunch break at Hyde Park, we made our way to the museum based on the lives of the convicts. There were real pieces of clothing, cutlery, marbles and even a corpse of a dead rat! All the ancient artefacts were found in the museum itself after the convicts migrated.

Overall, the city excursion was a fun and safe activity. It was an amazing way to learn about Australian history.
