Parent Workshop

Ms H. Lee & Mrs P. Krishan

Thank you to our parents and families who attended the Parent Workshop on Wednesday, 26th June, 2024.

We greatly enjoyed sharing effective reading strategies and resources to support children's reading comprehension. In summary, as a group, our key messages were that:

  • When learning to read, children require a strong understanding of their letters and sounds (single or digraph)
  • In Kindergarten and Year 1, students work very hard to blend words to start reading fluently. Instantly recognising sight words helps children read better.
  • Year 2 to 6, a shift from learning to read to reading to learn happens. (What is the purpose and who is the audience?)
  • We encourage children to engage in quality literature to learn!

It was fantastic to meet new parents to our community and hear the sharing happening. Our parents are also life long learners.

We look forward to our next workshop. Please contact the school for suggestions on topics you would like to explore together. We love learning with you!
