Year 7s - A Midsummer Night's Dream
Year 7 Parents, Guardians, and Carers are encouraged to attend Bell Shakespeare's production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Araluen Center on June 29th 2024. Students will spend most of term 3 studying this play and as George Bernard Shaw once said: "Shakespeare must be played, not read."

My Mbantua Youth Fun Day – 9 July, 12pm – 3pm
As part of NAIDOC Week celebrations, Oonchiumpa Consultancy is hosting a Youth Fun Day at Ross Park Soccer fields for everyone to come along to. Headspace Year 12 Transitions Online Workshops
headspace Mental Health Education Program are running our first ever national online Year 12 Transitions workshops in Week 3 of next Term: Monday 29th July – Friday 2nd August. Attached is the student workshop flyer where individual classes can register, and the Parent and Carer flyer you can send to your families.
Sports Med – Level 1
Need any Sports Trainers for your Sport? Sports Med Australia are running their next Level 1 course on the 11th August, 8.30am – 5pm.
Alice Springs Masters Games is just around the corner and they are looking for anyone over the age of 18 who might like to help the Games out by supporting the 29 sports as a Sports Trainer. Don’t forget to register to compete and/or Volunteer for the Games before registrations close.
Young Territory Author Awards
Apr 5th - Aug 27th 2024
The Young Territory Author Awards (YTAA) are an annual writing competition where entrants write and produce their own book. The Awards aim to inspire children and young people in the NT to explore their ideas and turn them into stories. The competition is open to all Territorians 18 years and under and is organised in association with other public libraries and schools throughout the Northern Territory. Entries close 27 August 2024 and the winners will be announced at a presentation in Darwin in November 2024.
There are lots of prizes to be won:
- The Young Territory Author of the year receives $500.
- The School Entry winner receives $500 for the school.
- The Children’s Book Council of Australia N.T. WOW award, winner will receive $200.
- Regional area winners receive a $50 prize.
- Age Category winners receive $50 voucher to the Bookshop Darwin.
- Highly Commended in each age category receive a $30 voucher to the Bookshop Darwin.
- Encouragement Awards in each age category receive a $20 voucher to the Bookshop Darwin.
Entries are considered in all categories they are eligible for. The categories include:
- 8 years and under — all single entries in this age bracket are eligible
- 9 – 12 years — all single entries in this age bracket are eligible
- 13 – 15 years — all single entries in this age bracket are eligible
- 16 – 18 years — all single entries in this age bracket are eligible
- Regional areas — all entries received (school and single) in an NT region are eligible
- School Entries — all entries received from schools are eligible
- CBCA of Australia N.T. WOW award – all single entries are eligible

NAPCAN Youth Speak Out Program
NAPCAN is excited to announce it is opening up applications to our National Youth Speak Out team!
The Youth Speak Out team has existed for almost 2 years now. We have successfully consulted and collaborated on work within NAPCAN and with external stakeholders. Our team has also flown around to varying States and Territories to engage with decision-makers and present at conferences. Over the course of the two years we have secured a multi-year grant to support us in our advocacy and embedding the voices of young people in programs and policy.

No Lights No Lycra is a weekly lights-off chance to dance in the dark for the pure joy of dancing. It’s a place to shake out the stresses of the week, let go of your inhibitions and completely be yourself.
It occurs in over 75 locations around the world, and Alice Springs sessions are on Thursday nights at 6pm at Red Hot Arts, 67 Bath St. Casual passes are $10, and you can buy a 10 pack for $100 (plus you get one class free!) cash or card.
Become a Beanie Maker for the Alice Springs Beanie Festival!
From June 21 to 24, 2024, the Alice Springs Beanie Festival will be taking place, celebrating its 28th anniversary with the theme of "Listen to the Land."
Five hundred beanie makers (from around the globe) shall create some of the world's best headgear and 6600 beanies are expected to descend on the Araluen Arts Centre for four days of exhibitions, Indigenous workshops, textile classes, live music, homemade tucker and a whole lot of fun, joy, warmth and colour.
7000 visitors from around the world attend and join in the excitement in the hunt for that perfect beanie. Chief Beaniologist , Jo Nixon, says "This year's Festival will the best one ever. We are planning for a huge success, and we are blessed to be able to include beanie artists from the remote Indigenous Communities of Central Australia creating opportunities for some lovely cross-cultural sharing with visitors. And, of course, we won't pull it off without the 120 volunteers giving their time and love to our special event."
It's never too early to start preparing, so make sure to download entry forms for Beanie Central and the National Beanie Competition and order swing tags for your beanies. Swing tags must be ordered before May 1st and entries received by May 31st. We're excited to see the unique and creative beanies that you come up with!
Variety NT Adventure Camp
Variety - the Children’s Charity NT would like to invite teenagers to participate in the 2024 Variety NT Adventure Camp.
The camp will be held from Saturday 29 June to Saturday 6 July 2024 at the Goanna Park Junior Police Rangers Youth Facility, 90km east of Darwin on the Arnhem Highway.
Each year, Variety NT runs the Adventure Camp for teenagers who have a mild to moderate disability. As part of the adventure experience, campers and carers/volunteers sleep outside in large screened tents and participate in various activities such as abseiling, flying fox, water sports, craft & talent shows.
The Adventure Camp program is designed to assist participants:
• gain self-esteem and confidence
• challenge their comfort zones
• develop life skills
• promote friendships with other participants with whom they can empathise
• experience social interaction on visits to attractions

Women of STEM
To help provide opportunities for young women, last year we launched our Women of STEM Scholarship for women aged 18-20 who are entering their first year of a STEM degree at university.
The Women of STEM Scholarship is a national program and provides women with financial grants of $5,000 per year for the life of their degree, up to a maximum of 5 years . This year we have awarded scholarships to three exceptional female students.
