Sharing The Planet

Year 3 Term 3A, 2024

Transdisciplinary Theme

'Sharing the planet'

Central Idea

Survival of a species is dependent on its environmental conditions

As an International Baccalaureate World School, authorised to teach the Primary Year’s Programme, we explore six transdisciplinary themes each year.

  • Responsibility
  • Causation

Lines of Inquiry

  • Living and non-living things
  • The differences between living, once living and products of living things
  • Species in danger of becoming extinct
  • Factors affecting the survival of some species

Action

This unit is designed to promote student and community action.

The students will prepare an oral presentation about an endangered animal of their choice. They will then use this information to create a factual narrative. The narratives will then be shared throughout the school community to help raise awareness of endangered animals.

The students will attend an excursion to Healesville Sanctuary where they will learn how they can take action to care for animals in the wild.

Last year during this unit, it was wonderful to see how many students took further action by donating to charities that supported their animals. Several students across the year level even adopted an endangered animal of their choice to help their cause.
