Additional Social Emotional learning sessions for students

Earlier this week our Foundation students had the benefit of learning more about being kind to each other through a session with Wellbeing Officer, Alannah. Alannah did some wonderful learning activities for the students and focused her message by cleverly using an episode of Bluey which was very well received by the students.  Alannah, Tess and Jess have been running a number of different year level sessions which focus on social emotional learning.  The topics have included:  Healthy eating and looking after yourself at Year 7 and Year 10, mental health and where to go for support for Year 10 boys and being a supportive friend for Year 1 students.  The sessions have been a great way to address issues that come up within cohorts and support our students to navigate these issues better.

Roll out of the Mobile Phone Policy Update

The change to not having phones in the morning onsite has been a really positive one! Our students have managed this change really well!  We were supported by a great group of Year 8 and Year 11 students who assisted to make a video presentation for all students to educate them on what the changes were.  The video highlighted what phones off and away as you come on site looks like and what it does NOT look like.  Students have been really clear on what is allowed and have adapted to this change really well.  I would like to thank parents who have been really supportive in assisting their children to know and understand the changes.

Student Voice to bring about positive change

Student participation within the SOLE team has continued into this year and one of the initiatives which was developed by some of our student leaders was the development of red and green zones within the school.  The zones show students where they are allowed to eat and where they should not.  This was rolled out at the end of last term with a very interesting video presentation! This has assisted students to know and understand these zones better and is hopefully leading to less rubbish in our yard space!

Hats

Our students have been doing a great job of wearing their hats.  Please check in with your child to ensure they have their hat with them at school at all times.  Along with our warmer days, the UV index is climbing and it is essential that all students are protected by wearing their hats.

Overall, it has been a really positive start to the term.  Thanks to all for your efforts in making St Augustine’s a place of belonging and welcome.
