Farewell to our Year 12s

Today we reached another milestone inthe 2024 academic year. After 13 years of schooling, our Year 12 students farewelled St Augustine's, with many smiles and a few tears.

The Year 12’s final day started with the parade of colourful costumes and themes, including some Barbie princesses, some other princesses (Sophie-Grace and Rosie), Shrek and friends, Darla and Nemo, Rick and Morty, Tom and Jerry, a hoard of Minions, a creepy clown, a collection of cartoon characters from Disney, Looney Tunes, Nickelodeon and the world of anime and manga, some Simpsons, the guys from the Hangover, Zoolander super models, Alvin and the Chipmunks, a John Cena look-alike, Indiana Jones and Lloyd Christmas and Harry Dunne from Dumb and Dumber to round out the group.

The final TA session saw many smiles and tears as memories were shared in a moving Retreat reflection, led by Mrs Chapman and the Year 12 TAs. The entire school shared in the students’ final assembly, with a farewell video from the Year 12s providing a combination of old and new memories, reflections and observations on the highs and lows of their final year, showing how far they have come from their beginnings as students through to their final day. There were a lot of laughs and exclamations as the College community saw the originals and recreations of childhood photos; for some, the transformations were amazing; for others, it was as if the years had barely passed.

After a final  farewell, the Year 12s exited the Brigidine Centre for the last time, with the best wishes of the entire St Augustine’s community going with them. The day was a credit to the students and a memorable celebration of the 2024 Year 12’s time at St Augustine’s.

As the students now turn their attention to their final exams, or the worlds of work or study beyond their time at the College, we would like to take this opportunity to wish our Graduating Class of 2024 all the best as they pursue their chosen pathways. The past few years have seen this group go through changes and challenges but, with determination and spirit, and the support of their families, friends and the St Augustine’s community, they have developed from a nervous and excited Year 9 cohort into the proud and strong young adults of the class of 2024. Over the last year, our Year 12s have shown that they are ready to take on the next stages of their journeys. May they make their way through the world with the spirits of St Brigid and St Augustine guiding them as they live a true life of strength and kindliness.

Years 9 and 10 Outdoor Education and Conservation Mt Kooyoora Trip

Years 9 and 10 Outdoor Education and Conservation students for Semester 2 enjoyed a two day bush walking experience at Mt Kooyoora State Park. Students put into practice their skills to be self sufficient for an overnight bush walk. The skills involved navigation, identification of flora and fauna, knowledge of Indigenous culture, knowledge of European history, trangia cooking and tent set up. Students also had time to reflect on their own participation and leadership skills.

Students enjoyed exploring the rock areas and were grateful for blue skies and a visit to the Bridgewater Bakery on the way home. Some of us were even lucky to see a brief sighting of Aurora Australis.
