5-8 Community News

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Welcome to what promises to be an exceptionally busy term for our school community! As we dive into the upcoming weeks, we will be engaging in a variety of exciting activities, events and learning opportunities. This term is packed with important dates and initiatives that will foster collaboration, growth and connection among students, staff and families. We encourage everyone to stay involved and make the most of this dynamic time ahead!

SOLE and TA

Firstly, I’d like to commend our students on how well they have adapted to the new College Phone Policy. Their maturity in managing this change has been outstanding and we appreciate their cooperation in ensuring a more focused and engaged learning environment. This policy has contributed positively to reducing distractions in the classroom and we are confident it will continue to benefit everyone as the term progresses. We look forward to continuing a successful and productive term with these new practices in place!

Over the past two weeks, our students have continued to focus on practicing punctuality and following directions.

Goal Setting

This week in TA, students will engage in a comprehensive learning experience focused on goal setting and planning for the future. The emphasis will be on setting SMART goals: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound: to help students articulate their objectives clearly and effectively. This week in TA, students will focus on several key areas. First, they will conduct a Current Progress Review, reflecting on their progress reports, which include academic performance, attendance, and any behaviours of concern. This self-assessment will serve as the foundation for their goal-setting process.

This week’s focus on goal setting and progress evaluation aims to empower students to take ownership of their learning journey, ensuring they are well-equipped to succeed both academically and personally.

Sun Safety Reminder

As we move into the warmer months, this is a friendly reminder to all students that hats are essential when outdoors. With the increase in temperature—especially this week—it is important for students to practice sun safety during recess, lunch breaks and PE classes. Please ensure your child brings their hat to school each day as part of our SunSmart policy.

Use of the Rec Reserve

With the warming weather, we typically see more students being active. Students are welcome to continue using the Rec Reserve, where they can engage in their favourite sports and activities. This is a great opportunity for students to stay active and enjoy the outdoors.

Year 8 Leadership 2025

We are currently in the process of selecting our Student Leaders for 2025. I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all the applicants for their dedication and effort in preparing for their interviews and upcoming speeches, which they will deliver on Friday. We look forward to appointing our new leaders for our College Community in the coming weeks and are excited about the contributions they will make.

Years 5/6 Canberra Camp

Our Years 5/6 students had an unforgettable experience in Canberra last week.  We look forward to sharing learning and photos from their trip in our next full newsletter.

Year 6 to 7 Transition Conversations for existing families

The Year 6 to 7 Transition Conversations for existing families provide a valuable opportunity for parents and guardians to engage with our educational staff and discuss the important changes that come with moving into Year 7. These conversations are designed to address any questions or concerns families may have about the transition process, including curriculum expectations, social adjustments and support services available to students. By fostering open communication, we aim to ensure that families feel well-informed and supported as their children embark on this significant educational milestone. These discussions not only help to ease the transition for students, but also strengthen the partnership between home and school, paving the way for a successful Year 7 experience.
