What is happening around the school

Foundation

What better way to learn our new word 'thumb' than to make thumbprints and turn them into magical things.

In Foundation H, we have been learning how to use the iPad to write and draw. We all wrote about our school holidays."

Grades 1 and 2

At the end of Term 3, the students in Grades 1 and 2 completed their paper mache models of Earth. They painted their paper mache creations blue and pasted the continents onto their model.

Grades 3 and 4

It’s great to be outside in the garden after a few weeks of school holidays! Our Sweet Peas and Broad Beans have had a huge growth spurt. Our snow peas are producing an abundant crop.

The Native and European Bees are buzzing softly from flower to flower and the snails are munching and hiding amongst the foliage of the Broad Beans. We have been watering, weeding, snipping, sweeping, harvesting and picking snails off our garden beds. Grade Threes have been busy little green thumbs!

Writing

We have been creating our own snapshot writing from our school holidays.  We needed to choose one event from our holidays and really focus on giving lots of detail by using the 5 W’s – who, what, when, where and why as well as our 5 senses – look, touch, taste, smell and hear and then publish it using the Chromebooks.

Visual Arts

The fine weather has given us the opportunity to work “al fresco” as artists love to do.

The Grade 3 and 4 students have been working on reverse paintings of birds and plants, inspired by Sarah Robey. Lots of details and pattern are built up on the page before the background is painted out in white. This is a fun process.

Footy Maths Day Results

Footy Maths Day

On the last day of Term 3, Kalinda held its annual Footy Maths Day. We began our day with our team supporter human graph, followed by a variety of footy-themed maths-based activities. Students were invited to estimate the total sum of our footy jumper numbers. This year's total was 7106.

Congratulations to our two Grade 1 students, Fred and Riley, for having our closest estimate of 7118, just 12 off the actual total. In the rush to find all our level winners, I missed one of our Foundation students, Oliver A. He will be presented with his certificate at Friday's assembly. Thank you to all who participated and congratulations to the Lions supporters on their team’s victory in this year’s grand final.

Below are this year's closest estimators for each year level.
