Grade 4
Reading
The students this week have continued learning about information reports. We have been looking at the King of the polar bear, and we will be writing a book report on the same text. The students have been learning new words to add to their vocabulary. Everyone has been enjoying the time we have had learning background information about polar bears and the Arctic, leading up to our main text, The King of the Polar Bears.
Writing
Grade 4’s have commenced their own research about a different animal. They have been using chromebooks to find out all the necessary information that is important to their unique species. They have been investigating their diet, appearance, habitat, life cycle, as well as finding meanings to scientific words and creating accurate diagrams.
Maths
In our Grade 4 classroom, we've been learning about equivalent number sentences, understanding how they are like a seesaw that needs to stay balanced on both sides. We can use this knowledge to work out missing terms! We've also been exploring division, learning how it's connected to multiplication. By using what we know about multiplying, we're getting better at solving short division questions, making maths more fun and easier to understand!
Respectful Relationships
In Respectful Relationships we have engaged with the Class Dojo lessons. The Grade 4’s have been learning about what it means to have a growth mindset.
What’s a Growth Mindset?
A Growth Mindset means believing that you can grow and improve by learning new things, working hard, and being open to feedback. It’s like being a superhero who gets stronger and smarter with every challenge!
How Does This Help Us Respect Others?
When we have a Growth Mindset, we’re more likely to:
- Listen Carefully: We understand that everyone has something special to share, and we respect their ideas.
- Work Together: We believe that by helping each other, we can all grow and succeed.
- Be Patient and Understanding: We know that everyone is learning and making mistakes, just like us.
