Term 4
Welcome back to St Patrick’s Library for Term 4.
After the excitement of Book Fair, Book Week and Premier’s Reading Challenge in Term 3, our library continues to be a hive of activity for students. It is wonderful to see our Early Bird readers use the library to enjoy some reading time. Our Passive Play students love to visit the library for colouring and quiet games at recess and lunch. On Fridays the library is full of the sound of our Amadeus music students who are working hard for their end of year performances.
Classes will continue to borrow books until Week 7. We ask all families to check for school library books at home and return all books in Week 8 for stocktake.
Check out these unique ideas to encourage your family to read more!
- BOOK ADVENT CALENDARS
Christmas is fast approaching! Like the calendars that let you open a little door and find a chocolate treat every day from December 1 through to December 24, Book Advent Calendars mean spending time together as a family reading a story every single night.
- Collect books for your calendar. These can be family favourites, stories that celebrate the birth of Christ, or even books purchased second hand.
- Wrap the books individually and number them. Many families start their Book Advent Calendar closer to Christmas, you do not have to start on December 1. Place the books in a basket under the tree.
- Unwrap a book each night and read together! Have some Christmas music in the background.
It is the perfect way to take a few minutes out of the busy holiday season and enjoy reading time together as a family.
- READING BOOKS IN A SERIES
Have you ever finished a book and wished that it had a sequel? Many children feel the same! Children are often motivated to continue reading when a new book has been added to their favourite series.
If this sounds like your child check out the website below. It has hundreds of suggestions of popular series for different ages. Find your book series, print off a checklist and cross off your reads as you go. Happy Reading!
(NB This website also contains book series for young adults and adult readers)
