Principal's Report
“The ocean stirs the heart, inspires the imagination and brings eternal joy to the soul.” Robert Wyland
This is our last newsletter as we finish up Term 3. Hopefully the upcoming break allows families to recharge so we can return energised and restored. Living by the ocean as we do in bayside provides an added sense of wonder and peace. The time that we take to marvel at the horizon beyond the sea “inspires the imagination.” It is the connection between continents, hemispheres and places that allowed peoples throughout time to intertwine cultures. The ocean provides joy and wellbeing whether we are in it, on it, or near it.
We build wellbeing both in and out of the learning spaces at Beaumaris. Our GOAL program focuses on developing the whole student, emphasising physical, social, intellectual and emotional growth. Our GOAL Mentors and the Wellbeing Team work together to ensure students receive the guidance and support they need as partners with families.
Last week, our Year 9 students led Shark Tank activities to help Year 7s settle into their new school environment, fostering connections and creativity. Our Year 8 and Year 11 students also came together during GOAL in support of R U OK? Day, while the Student Wellbeing Action Group (SWAG) and Wellbeing Team invited students to 'ice their feelings' onto cookies at lunchtime. Additionally, our Year 7 students participated in the LifeChanger Youth Program, and we held a valuable Headspace parent webinar, offering important insights for families.
College Production
A huge congratulations to the team for the amazing production of Alice in Wonderland - it was phenomenal! The students excelled in backstage roles, lighting, sound, band, and, of course, the performances. It was heartwarming, clever, funny, joyous and thoroughly entertaining. The memories created during this production will last a lifetime for everyone involved. A big thank you to Ms Price and the team for their support and dedication in making this production such a success - it was outstanding!

It was wonderful to welcome Beaumaris Primary and Beaumaris North Primary Schools for special matinee performances.
Class of 2024
On Friday, 6 September, our Year 12 students were treated to our now memorable ‘Hide & Seek’ Game Night at the college. The students tried their best to both hide and seek. The game was a House group competition with final points still being tallied. There is something really special about having the whole school to yourself as a year level. The excitement continued this week during GOAL with a silent disco, providing a great way for students to wrap up a busy term. These events have been wonderful opportunities for our students to bond and create lasting memories as they approach the conclusion of their high school journey.
To celebrate their time at Beaumaris, students from the Class of 2024 have been sharing their favourite highlights and what they will miss through Instagram and Facebook stories. We will certainly miss them all and are very proud of their accomplishments.
A community board has been placed on the corner of Reserve and Balcombe Roads to extend our best wishes to the Class of 2024. It's hard to believe how quickly time has flown by!
'Shoreline' Book Launch
The launch of our 'Shoreline' Creative Writing Journal on 6 September marked a significant milestone for the college. We were delighted to host acclaimed writer Caz Goodwin, whose presence enriched our young writers with invaluable insights and inspiration and underscored the importance of this achievement. The first publication of our talented student writers is another milestone for our college. Thank you again to Mr de Valle, Ms Green and Mr Cian who played a vital role in bringing this together.
BSC Market Day
On 11 September, Central Plaza came alive at lunchtime as our Year 9 Innovate students embraced their entrepreneurial spirit. The event featured a range of stalls, treats and engaging challenges that were fully student organised. Students from all year levels participated in the fun, while our Year 9s gained insights into various social enterprises. The event was a tremendous success, with over $2,000 going to charities and non-profits selected by the students. A big thank you to the Year 9 team of teachers for their guidance and support in making this event possible.
Division Athletics
Congratulations to our exceptional athletes for their impressive performances at Divisional Athletics last week. Beaumaris placed an amazing 2nd overall, and Kiara M and Ada S broke division records! We are extremely proud of the fantastic results they achieved. Best wishes to those advancing to the Regionals.
VCE Music Showcase
This week, our talented VCE Music students showcased their passion and skill at the VCE Music Showcase, delivering impressive performances. Each student performed numerous pieces that will make up their final VCE performances. We wish them all the best. A heartfelt thank you to our dedicated instrumental music staff for making the evening a success, and to everyone who attended.
Supporting Cancer Research
Students and staff embraced Footy Colours Day on Monday with enthusiasm, raising funds for the Fight Cancer Foundation. We had our annual Year 12 students versus teachers football game at lunchtime. Our staff were valiant on the day, but the students took the lead and were the victors on the day—there is always next year for our staff to come out on top.
A big congratulations to our incredible students and staff who participated in Connor’s Run on Sunday, helping to improve outcomes for kids battling brain cancer. Well done to Phoebe M (Year 10), who raised over $1000! We are proud to have supported this amazing cause as a college.
Thank You Kay & Burton
A special thank you to Kay & Burton for their generous sponsorship of numerous community boards that showcase the many events and achievements here at the college. We truly appreciate your commitment to the Beaumaris Secondary College community.
End of Term
Tomorrow is the last day of term and students will be dismissed at 2pm. Please take the time to read through your child's progress report, which will be made available on Compass tomorrow.
Unit 3/4 practice exams are being held in the first week of school holidays and I encourage students to take full advantage of the opportunity for additional practice and preparation for the upcoming final exams.
Term 4 commences on Monday 7 October, and students are expected to wear their summer uniform. There is a two-week optional changeover period during which either summer or winter uniform is permitted.
I will be on long service leave for the duration of Term 4. During my absence, Peter Bartlett will be stepping in as Acting Principal. The leadership team will continue to provide strong leadership and ensure that the school’s operations and initiatives proceed smoothly. I am excited to be celebrating my daughter’s wedding in Mexico while on leave. I look forward to seeing everyone when I return in 2025.
