Level 3 & 4 Wonga Weekly

Week 10, Term 3

WEEK 10 LEARNING

CBL

This week we will conclude our CBL topic of 'Respect' with a deep dive into Paralympians and the challenges that they have overcome in order to succeed. We will also be watching 'Ahn's Brush with Fame', featuring Adam Goodes, to explore the importance of acceptance of all nationalities and cultures. We will be finishing off the unit with a 'You Can't Ask That' session about racism, to address any questions and misunderstandings.

What you can do at home:

Have open discussions with your child about examples of racism or other types of discrimination in society and how it affects others.

📚 Literacy

Reading

This week we will read about Australian Paralympians and their experiences as they prepared for  the 2024 games. Students will complete a research project on a chosen athlete with a focus on their mindset and how they overcame challenges.

What you can do at home:

Encourage your child to set aside time to read every night, include time to read aloud and or record themselves reading on their iPad.

Writing

Students will be publishing and illustrating a range of their own poems into a 'Poetry Anthology'. We are encouraging them to use a range of rhyming patterns, rhythm and literary devices.

What you can do at home:

Read your child poetry over the holidays and celebrate their success.

🎲 Maths

This week we will begin investigating time. We will make clocks and practice reading analogue and digital representations of time.

What you can do at home

Encourage your child to read the time at home using both analogue and digital clocks. Discuss the duration of time for different events such as a sporting game or a movie - eg, what time will it be when ___ has finished? Plan a day on the holidays which includes a timetable.

Complete 400 points of Mathletics including all set task.  You can support your child to practice their times tables. In Grade Three, our focus is on 2s, 3s, 5s and 10s. In Grade Four we continue to strengthen these as well as building in 4s, 6s, 7s, 8s and 9s.

🌿 REMINDERS

🌱 Students are encouraged to bring their iPads fully charged each day

🌱 We are quickly running out of tissues and wipes, we would accept any donations with gratitude

🌱If you can help out for SAKG, please check your emails for the volunteer link.

🌱 We are using whiteboard markers and boards everyday. We recommend that students could bring a set of their own that are labeled.

🌱 Hats On

As of September 1st, we would like to remind you that our school adheres to the SunSmart policy set by the Victorian Government. All students are required to wear a broad-brimmed hat when outdoors from the 1st September when UV levels are typically higher.

Please ensure your child brings a hat to school every day to protect them from the sun's harmful rays.

Thank you for your support in keeping our school community safe and sun-smart.
