🏰 Prep Concert - thank you!

Thank you to every family for helping to prepare your child/ren for the Prep concert. We were absolutely blown away that every child knew their lines and could confidently deliver them on the night. We were immensely proud of their bravery to overcome nerves and perform as well as they did, despite the challenge of the weather. The resilience on display was inspiring and we were incredibly proud of every child. There will be more about the concert in the upcoming newsletter, so please check it out later in the week!

📸 Learning Snapshots

We are so proud of the learning that the Preps have been engaged in over the Term. They have been uploading work to their Showbie accounts. As a parent, you are able to sign up for a free parents account, that is linked to your child's Showbie. This will ensure that you are able to see all the wonderful learning that is being uploaded.

NB: Parent codes will be put in your child's book pocket this week.

CURRICULUM

📚 Phonemic awareness: reading and phonics

Students will complete one UFLI session this week (2 lessons and an assessment), and they will also revise the FLSZ rule.

Students will learn to read and spell with words finishing in -all, -oll and -ull. The vowels a, o and u make a different sound when followed by 'll'.

Students will read decodable words, phrases and texts. They will review the following heart words: your and want

What can you do at home over the holidays?

-Choose books from the selection on your child's iPad, ensuring that they are reading fluently (remind your child that they only need to 'sound it out' if they are unsure of the word)

-Practise the Heart Words at home, ensuring that you are reading AND spelling these words

-Explore the Reading Eggs library and Fast Phonics to read decodable texts

Optional UFLI Home Practice page (refer to the email for more information):

Monday & Tuesday learning: -all, -oll, -ull

📝 Literature: reading responses and writing

The mentor text this week is the fairytale, Rapunzel. Students will use this text to form the basis of their literary responses, such as writing questions based on a picture prompt. They will ensure they are using a question word at the start, and a question mark at the end. Students will also reflect on their favourite fairy tale and why they enjoy it.

What can you do at home over the holidays?

-Reinforce correct entry and exit points for letters if your child writes at home

-Practise mapping and spelling the Heart Words

-Provide authentic opportunities for your child to write at home eg. writing birthday cards, shopping lists and keeping score in games

-Keep a journal about holiday highlights, ensuring that sentences have a capital letter and a full stop

🔢  Maths

Students will revise important number concepts taught throughout the term, with a fairytale spin on them! We will look at sharing, part-part-whole, and place value (numbers beyond 10). We will explore these concepts through Challenging Tasks to develop problem solving skills.

What can you do at home over the holidays?

-Play board games that involve numbers (eg. using dice, moving spaces, etc)

-Notice, read and name numbers around you

-Practise writing numbers at home, ensuring that numbers are not reversed!

👯 Friendology

Students will watch the final session which 'ties' it all together, reviewing the key concepts. We will continue to use the the teaching from Friendology in our daily lives at school, and review concepts as the need arises.
