In reading, the grade 3/4s have started to explore the comprehension strategy of visualising. We have read lots of texts and drawn pictures of the mental images we created while reading. It was interesting to see how everybody's visualisation of the same text was unique because of our own personal experiences, prior knowledge and interpretations.
In reading we have also started to revise strategies that readers can use when answering questions about a text, such as searching for key words and looking for synonyms.
In writing, the grade 3/4s have started to write persuasive texts. We have had so much fun sharing our opinions and debating topics! Grade 3/4 students have learnt about the structure, purpose and features of persuasive texts. We have also started to use persuasive devices in our writing to make our texts even more convincing.
In grammar we have learnt about conjunctions. We have been able to use conjunctions in our writing to combine ideas and make our sentences more complex.

In maths, the grade 3/4s have been exploring the concept of division. We practised solving equations using the 'sharing method' and the 'grouping method'. It has been great seeing students apply their knowledge of skip counting patterns and multiplication facts when solving division problems. Students have also started to explore multiplication and division fact families.
Grade 3/4 students have also enjoyed working on various worded problems. It has been great applying our knowledge and skills about maths concepts to solve real-life problems.

In SEL, the students have been learning about being part of a community. We have discussed the importance of team work and how working with others is something they will need to do for the rest of their lives so it is essential to understand how to communicate and work in teams. The children enjoyed working together in team challenges.

In Inquiry, we have started to unpack our new topic: "Location! Location!" We have looked at maps of the world and identified countries and continents. It was lovely finding out how we are connected to so many countries from around the world. Children have loved creating powerpoint presentations about the size, location, population, traditional foods and flags of different countries!
