Sustainability News

There have been a number of new initiatives introduced around the College, including paper recycling bins (blue) which have been distributed to all classrooms.

There are white lidded buckets in key areas around the College which are designed to collect all food waste. These buckets will be emptied every day into the larger FOGO (food organics, garden organics) bins.

A number of students helped with the roll-out of these white lidded buckets, carefully labelling them with all the things that can (and can't) go in them.

In a recent assembly, students viewed a brief video clip explaining the process of food waste being turned into rich soil at the HCC Refuse Centre.

Mixed Recycling Bins have been placed beside each FOGO bin.

We know that once our staff and students have mastered appropriate sorting, the amount of landfill we produce at the College will be reduced significantly.

Groovy Gardeners

We have a group of very willing helpers, spending lunchtime beautifying our gardens. Recently they have planted violets and 'pig face' under the ramp leading to the Hall.

Share Table

Last Friday we harvested produce from several vegetable patches we have around the College. The Kinders grew an enormous cauliflower and the Year 1 class set up the Share Table for our families to take produce home. It was such a delight to see all of the produce was taken.
