Year 5 & 6 Rugby & Basketball

Rugby Gala

By Cataleya, Patrick C, Sophie, and Tom

On Friday 13th, the Year 5s, Year 6s, and a few of the Year 4s went to the Rugby Gala run by the NRL. We were very fortunate that the NRL could run this event for all the different schools.

We played three games each and there were three teams that our school was divided into: Girls Touch, Boys Touch, and a Mixed Touch.

In the touch rugby, we put a velcro belt around our waist and stuck two tags on each side.

Then when we were playing, if the opposing team pulled a tag off us it would count as a tackle. Each team was allowed four “tackles”, then it was a turnover and the other team got the ball.

The aim of the game was to get the ball past the line to try and score a point which is called a try.

During a break, there was a dance party with lots of music and all the schools gathered near the speakers. There were lots of speakers and kids dancing like crazy.

The girls did really well, we won two and tied once. It was a really fun day and we played well.

The mixed team… they tried really hard, but sadly they didn't win any.

The boys team won one, tied one, and lost one.

We also had a relay race against all the other schools.

Last Friday, the Year 5 and 6s and some Year 4s went to the Rugby Gala Day. There were three teams and they all did very well. We all played tag rugby.

We had many fun activities. One of my favourite times of the day was the rugby disco. They were blasting music and everyone was dancing and having a good time. Another activity we did was a rugby relay. Cataleya, Adhithi, Harriett, and Lenny did the girls’ relay. They ended up coming 2nd.

The girls’ team did very well for a team that had never played before. They won all three of their games against St Joan of Arc, St Marys, and St Pats. It was a really fun day and everyone played really well.

The boy's team for their first match faced St Joan of Arc and it was a tough match for the boys but unfortunately, they lost 2-1. It was close and they put up a good fight.

Their next match was against Sacred Heart and they did amazing winning 1-0 against them, winning their 2nd match.

The final match was against St Mary's East and the boys did amazing and tied 1-1 against the best team in the league.

Lightning Premiership Basketball

By Frances, Harriet, Henry, Oscar and Adhithi

On the 6th of September, everyone who wanted to go from Year 6 and 5 to the LIGHTNING PREMIERSHIP BASKETBALL could go. It was a really fun day and we all had a really great time. Everyone showed great sportsmanship.

When we played our first game everyone was nervous but excited. We sadly lost the game. Everyone was ready to take on the next team. But sadly, we also lost our second game but played a lot better. And then we watched the girls play. They played a good game but they lost. We then watched them play their second game which they also lost but it was a good game and they tried their hardest. There was a lot of encouragement and sportsmanship which was great to see.
