Captains Corner
Welcome to the Captain’s Corner, with Alyssia and Patrick!
As Term 3 has come to an end, we have had some really fun events such as Interschool basketball, the Year 6s attending a Sustainability Festival, the Rugby Gala day and Footy Colours Day!
Inter School basketball:
The Year 5/6s had Interschool basketball on the 6th of September and it was such a fun day for all of us! We unfortunately lost but we all gave it a go. It was so fun getting to talk to all the other schools and we made a few friends. All of us enjoyed it and most of us who don't play would love to start playing now!
Sustainability festival:
On the 5th of September, we had the sustainability festival that all the year 6s went on! It was such a great day and we all learnt so much. We started by taking the tram to the St Kilda Town Hall where it was held. Once we got off the train we all gathered in the Town Hall and the Acknowledgement of Country was held. In the Acknowledgement of Country, we learnt that a lot of the land we have now used to only be water! After that, we all split into groups and did the activities for the rest of the day.
- Seed bombs run by JaneGoodall's “ roots and shoots”
- The St Joseph's Malvern presentation of nude food.
- A talk from a palaeontology
- Beach in a bottle
- Cat toy making run by volunteers from the Melbourne Zoo
- Bubbles not balloons by the Zoo
- Animal homes
- Reptile encounters
- Greedy Sheep Run by Melbourne Girls College.
My personal favourite was the cat toy making because we got to keep our cat toys ( even though I don’t have a cat ). She said we are making these to spread the message saying keep your cats inside because they are a real threat to many animals. So if you have a cat, keep that in mind. They fed us morning tea which was muffins and fruit and let me just say, those muffins were so delicious! This day was so fun and it was such an amazing experience!
Rugby Gala Day:
Last Friday we had Rugby Gala Day! It was such a fun day and the energy was so high! There were other activities as well which were honestly my favourite part! In Rugby, the girls won 2 games and tied 1! And the boys won one, lost one and tied one! We said our chant at the end of each game saying “ J - O - E - Y - S, where St Joeys were the best! Go Joeys! “ There was a relay race and we ended up coming 2nd. There was also a big dance! They played many songs and me and all my friends managed to get to the front! We were dancing while singing (screaming) the words of the songs such as Barbie, Waka Waka, Call Me Maybe and What Makes You Beautiful. We also requested the Nutbush so we could do our year 6 dance! This day was so fun and probably my favourite out of all the sports events we have had!
Footy Colours Day:
Today was the last day of term three and Footy Colours Day! It was so fun getting to see everybody getting so into it and really dressing up! We started the day with the parade. We had a parade as all of the footy songs we played and when yours came on you would run around the footy oval! Then we did some footy activities inside until break time. After the first break, we did footy activities outside until the end of the day which was so fun! There was a lot of discussion during the day over which footy team is the best, but if you ask me, it’s Essendon. GO BOMBERS!
