RUOK? Day

RUOK? is a national suicide prevention charity and registered public health promotion that encourages people to stay connected and have conversations that can help others through difficult times. Their work focuses on building the motivation, confidence and skills of the help-giver – the person who can have a meaningful conversation with someone who is struggling with life.

It was great to see so many students participating in RUOK Day activities today. Our Y7, Y8 and Y10 students started the day with a session focussed on equipping students to ask and respond to an RUOK conversation. And our Y9 students heard from guest speaker, AFLW player and proud Noongar woman Courtney Ugle, as part of their third 'Respectful Relationships' session.

At lunchtime students chose from a range of activities: BBQ, mindful colouring, making stress balls, a movie, hugs with Honey the dog and matching staff to their childhood photo. These activities remind us that hope, optimism, warmth and a collective college effort are important in keeping our young people safe.

The RUOK Day website provides many helpful resources.

MC musicians perform at local primary schools

Last Tuesday the MC Stage Band went on a Primary School Tour to Footscray North and Ascot Vale West. They performed an amazing set of music and ran a fun interactive workshop. Our students taught a small group of primary school students to play an instrument and invited them to play along with the band. It was an amazing day and our students smashed it!
