The last week of Term 3 is almost here, promising to be a week filled with exciting events.
Throughout the term, we have eagerly anticipated the Kidpreneur Market Day organised by our Year 5/6 classes. This event marks the culmination of weeks of hard work and creative thinking by our students. During our assemblies, these budding entrepreneurs have been promoting their businesses and we are eagerly anticipating seeing their hard work come to fruition. We encourage our community to attend and join in the festivities to support our young entrepreneurs.
On the final day of the term, we will celebrate Sports Colours Day, with funds raised going towards Children's Cancer Foundation. Students are encouraged to wear the colours, uniforms or merchandise of their favourite sports teams. We look forward to seeing a vibrant display of colours and sports team spirit on the day. To add "flavour" to the day, students have the opportunity to pre-order a pie, sausage roll, pastie or hot chips for lunch. Last week, students received an order form which needs to be returned by this Friday 20th September. Spare forms are available from the office.
Year 3/4 Reflections on Term 3
This term I am thankful for Winnie the therapy dog in training; learning forensic science in Flint; for Mr and Mrs Dance's baby; and that we could learn more about God. I am thankful that the sheep have a good home, that we can learn more and more and that we have a good education.
Polly - 3/4 Dance
I am thankful for many things this term. The new therapy dog; our new 5/6 building; and the new basketball court. I am thankful for being able to play in the playground with friends; for our new Kinder students next year; and new people coming to the school. I am thankful for all the wildlife around the school and that Mr and Mrs Dance have a new baby.
Hezekiah - 3/4 Dance
This terms highlight was Jackson coming into our class. I am thankful for my new friend.
Ziggy - 3/4 Davies
This terms highlight for me is the excitement of Musica Viva and being able to use the new basketball court.
Phoebe - 3/4 Davies
Year 5/6 Launceston Zoo Excursion: Student Highlights and Fun Facts
Fun fact: Monkeys are the smartest animal in the world.
My highlight was the rain when I was just standing there.
Jacob
The snow leopard was really cool. The red panda was cute and the cheetah was just awesome! The lion greeted us with a roar and this was the best trip at school.
Isaac
I liked the lions and the African wild dogs because the African wild dogs move in packs and can take down a lion if they wanted. I like the lions because of how loud they are! You can hear them if you are on the other side of the zoo.
Oliver F
I enjoyed walking around the zoo and discovering new animals I have never heard of. My favourite thing about the zoo is getting to see capybaras and also getting to learn more about lions at the lions show. The zoo was an amazing experience and I hope I can go again someday.
Maybelle
When the lion roared at me.
Going in the emu pen and feeding them apples.
I found out that there are albino wallabies.
The lowest lion in the pride is called a loser.
The fact there are yellow monkeys.
Abraham
I liked the lions roaring and the dingoes. I also liked the leopards because they have cool patterns and I learnt that lions are really loud!

Tomorrow, Thursday 19th September, our Year 6 students will be experiencing a 'This Is Secondary' Taster Day!
'This Is Secondary' Taster Day has been designed to give our Year 6 students a sneak peek into the Secondary community and to experience a day in the life of Secondary at DCS!
Students will have the opportunity to experience some of the options classes that are available in Year 7, including:
On the day, students will be provided with a light lunch, but should also bring along their regular morning tea, packed lunch and drink bottle. Our day will commence at the usual starting time of 8:30am and conclude at 3:10pm. Just as our current Secondary students do, your child will have the choice on which uniform they wish to wear on the day: either the full winter uniform or the sports uniform.
If you would like further information, please contact our Head of Secondary, Mrs Alison Moore via email at: moorea@dcs.tas.edu.au.
We are looking forward to a fantastic day!
Our Year 5/6 students have been invited to participate in a Primary Schools Table Tennis Championships event here at DCS on Friday 20th September during lunch, with the winner and runner up invited to participate in the inter-school grand final that will be held at Banksia Centre, Port Sorell on Saturday 19th October. There they will have the opportunity to play against other students from along the North West Coast.
The event is open to all Year 5/6 students who wish to participate - no previous table tennis experience is required!
Students who are selected to participate in the grand final at Port Sorell will receive a free lunch and a brand new professionally branded table tennis bat. A shield will be presented to the winners of each title, which will be kept on display at the winner's school until the next event.
Just a reminder that on Monday 23rd September we will hold a final parent information session before our trip early next term. This session will be held in the Jiloa Centre from 3:30pm.
Please email any questions you may have to dehaane@dcs.tas.edu.au prior to the day so we can ensure to cover areas that you need more information on.
If you are unable to attend on the day any questions can still be emailed in. We will document all our Q&A's and email it to all our Canberra families. Finalised itineraries and information will be sent home with students and a copy posted in Schoolbox.
We look forward to gathering together!

If you don't have sports colours or clothes, just casual clothes are fine. Please ensure that clothes are appropriate with fully enclosed shoes to provide protection. Cost is a gold coin donation.
It is getting closer to the end of term and the change-over to summer uniform in Term 4 for our primary students. This also includes our ‘Yes Hat, Yes Play’ policy requiring all primary students to wear either our school legionnaire or wide-brimmed hat whilst outside.
Due to our varied weather here in Tasmania, students have the option of wearing either the winter or summer uniform for the first two weeks of Term 4. All students will be required to be in full summer uniform by Monday 28th October.
Uniform sales are available throughout the term and you are welcome to access the DCS Community Cupboard for uniform needs for your family or to support other DCS families.
To look at donated uniforms, or to donate uniforms that are no longer required, please come and see the friendly staff at the school office. There is also a DCS Community Uniform Facebook Group for buying, selling or giving away uniforms. Please contact Jasmin at: thompsonj@dcs.tas.edu.au if you wish to get connected on this platform.
