Co-regulation and the School Holidays
The school holidays are a fun time, but they can also bring some challenges when it comes to emotions and routines. Co-regulation is when you help your child manage their feelings by being there to support them. During the holidays, co-regulation can make a big difference in how your child handles changes and extra time at home.
Here’s how co-regulation can help:
Changes in Routine: With no school, your child’s daily routine changes. Some kids may feel upset or confused. By staying calm and offering support, you can help them adjust.
Big Emotions: The holidays can bring excitement, frustration, or boredom. You can help your child manage these feelings by listening to them and offering comfort.
Sibling Conflicts: More time together can lead to more arguments between siblings. Co-regulation helps by guiding your kids on how to resolve disagreements calmly.
Spending Time Together: Use the holidays to connect with your child, talk about their feelings, and show them healthy ways to express themselves.
Teaching Independence: As you help your child through their emotions, they learn how to manage them on their own over time.
Unlike self-regulation, where kids learn to manage their emotions on their own, co-regulation is about being there for them—offering comfort, staying calm, and showing them how to handle tough emotions.
At St Joseph's we are proud to support this cause which will in turn support our very own Matilda and others like her.
We were able to raise $85.00 from the Casual Dress Day ~ well done and thank you to everyone who was able to donate a gold coin.
These sessions are available to all; strengthening family relationships and building capacity for parents and carers to better understand and support their children. Depending on the sessions that you wish to participate in, there may be a small cost attached. Where possible, sessions are free to access but bookings are a must!

Being at school every day is the single most important part of your child’s education. Students learn new things at school every day. Attending and participating in school will help your child develop academically, socially, and emotionally.
By attending school every day, students have the opportunity to engage with their peers, participate in classroom discussions, and benefit from the guidance and support of our dedicated teachers.
Research consistently shows students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve academic success, develop important social skills and build a strong foundation for their future.
Regular attendance plays a significant role in establishing positive habits and routines that are essential for academic growth and personal development. When students miss school, they not only miss out on valuable learning opportunities but also risk falling behind in their studies and building social connections with peers.
As partners in your child's education, we urge you to prioritise regular school attendance and ensure your child is present in school every day. There are no safe numbers of days for missing school!
We are here to help – if you’re having attendance issues with your child, we ask you to contact your child’s classroom teacher so we can work in partnership to address issues or concerns your child may have which may impact on their ability to attend school.
In Victoria, school is compulsory for children between the ages of 6-17.
A reasonable excuse to be absent from school includes:
You are legally required to ensure your child attends school every day or you must provide an explanation for their absence. You can do this through calling the school office on 5484 1797 or by logging your child’s absence on PAM.
In order for schools to implement the same day notification requirement, it’s essential you provide the school with your most up-to-date contact details.
