Chelsea Pomfret rises to Residential Advisor role at St. Ann’s College in Adelaide
(Adelaide, SA)
Chelsea Pomfret has been selected to join our team of 12 Residential Advisors at St Ann’s College on Brougham Place in North Adelaide. The Alice Springs native will take on a shared caretaking role for the 199 students who live at the residential college during the 2025 academic year.
Pomfret, 20, is entering her third year as a resident at St Ann’s College and degree at Flinders University. She is currently studying for a Bachelor of Education (Secondary) and would love to eventually teach abroad, preferably in a country like Vietnam to help disadvantaged children to achieve the same level of education as we have in Australia.
Residential Advisors are a highly regarded position at the College and their main goal is to facilitate a harmonious community. The role is primarily to assist the Principal/CEO and Dean of the College with academic and social leadership, pastoral care of resident students, and other related administrative tasks.
Pomfret explains why she applied for the role.
“My main reason to apply to become an RA is that I am passionate about helping people grow. I know for myself that I am a completely different person now than when I first come to College. I did a lot of growing up.”
“In the RA role I can help those who are a bit lost, and new to adulthood. I am from Alice Springs and it is a little difficult to get home often. I can help those who are homesick because I definitely have been through that. I can pick up on the signs and identify the introverted ones who are going through a tough time.”
Pomfret is an accomplished student who has been awarded the E.D.J. Symon Bursary at St Ann’s College and the John Hawkins scholarship (rotary) from Alice Springs. She has been recognized for the Bronze, Silver and Gold achievements of the Duke of Edinburgh Awards, which recognizes her contributions in volunteering, physical recreation, sills, adventure and Gold Residential Project.
During high school Pomfret competed in inter-school swimming events at St Philips College in Alice Springs and volunteered as a netball coach for three years, and as a volunteer Tae Kwon Do certified instructor. She played netball at the Giants Netball Club.
“I am looking forward to undertaking the training and team building that the RA team does each year to prepare us for the role. I think this will be a chance to achieve personal growth, which will be a benefit as I become a teacher. I am very excited to be more involved in College life.”
Wendy Fleming, Principal and CEO of St Ann’s believes Pomfret is a great fit for the position. “Chelsea brings strength to this role. She is approachable, organized and enthusiastic. I am delighted to have her join the Student Leadership Team this year.”
