Term 2 has been filled with rich learning experiences, exciting events, and plenty of opportunities for our students to grow both academically and personally. Our 5/6 students continue to approach their learning with enthusiasm, curiosity, and a willingness to challenge themselves.
In the classroom, students have been developing their writing skills through a variety of genres, including historical fiction and poetry. It’s been fantastic to see them experimenting with language and structure to create compelling and creative pieces.
Another special experience this term was our online author talk with Ahn Do. Students were captivated as Ahn shared stories from his childhood, his journey as a refugee, and what inspired him to become a writer. His message about resilience, humour, and following your passion really resonated with the students, and many left feeling inspired to write their own stories.
Our online talk with Sally Rippin inspired students to build new and interesting characters and they learned to use their own experiences to guide their writing. Students then joined Sally in drawing monster characters similar to the characters from her own books.
In maths, students have been working on developing their reasoning and problem-solving skills, with a focus on applying strategies to real-life contexts. Their ability to work collaboratively and explain their thinking has been a real highlight.
As part of our focus on wellbeing, students recently participated in the Kids Helpline “Let’s Talk Emotions” online incursion. This session helped students explore how to recognise and understand their emotions, and gave them strategies to manage challenges in a healthy and constructive way. It tied in beautifully with our Resilience Project lessons, where we continue to build on the themes of gratitude, empathy, and mindfulness.
Sport has been a highlight of Term 2, with students eagerly participating in interschool competitions. A standout event was the 5/6 Soccer Gala Day, where our students displayed energy, determination, and excellent teamwork. Whether competing on the field or encouraging their peers from the sidelines, everyone contributed to a fun and inclusive day.
Across all winter interschool sports, our students have continued to represent the school with pride. Their positive attitude and commitment to fair play have been impressive, with several teams remaining undefeated and progressing to the finals. We’re incredibly proud of the way they uphold our school values both on and off the field.
We are so proud of the way our 5/6 students continue to represent our school values of Respect, Responsibility, Excellence in Learning, and creating a Safe and Caring Environment. A big thank you to our families for your ongoing support—we’re looking forward to an exciting end to the term and everything that lies ahead!
