Wow, it's been another busy term in 3/4! Here is all the fantastic learning we've been up to in Weeks 9 and 10!

Maths

We've been busy learning about lots of different topics in Maths. In week 9, we were learning about patterns and how we can make and continue patterns with numbers. We used popsicle sticks to help us answer a question about growing patterns. Here we are making the patterns.

In week 10 we've been learning about telling the time. We've practised reading clocks, calculating elapsed time and converting between different units of time. Here we are making different times on our classroom clocks.

Literacy

We've been reading 'Finding our Heart' by Thomas Mayo in our Reading lessons. We looked at lots of different techniques that Thomas Mayo used in the book and learnt about the Uluru Statement from the Heart and its significance for First Nations People.

Part of one of our lessons was drawing our own illustration for the last page in the book, which has the words "Will you help the heart of the nation?". Here are some of our fantastic illustrations.

Author talk

On Thursday 26th of June the Grade 3/4 students participated in an online workshop with Amelia Mellor, author of 'The Grandest Book Shop in the World' and other historical fiction titles. We learnt about the research process Amelia went through to develop the characters and events in her stories. She told us about going to the State Library to research about Cole's Book Arcade, an old arcade in Bourke Street in the 1870s. She explained how important it is to research when you are writing historical fiction stories. She then went through the process of developing a character based on a real person from history. It was fantastic to hear the process of writing a historical fiction story from a real author!

Important Reminders

Our students have been working hard on their Discovery projects and are looking forward to sharing them with their families on Tuesday 1st July from 2:30pm until 4:15pm. We hope that lots of people can join us to see the amazing work the students have done.

Please ensure your child's portfolio is returned to their classroom as soon as possible.
