Music and Peforming Arts

Hello/Assalamu Alaikum/Yama/Hola, Nĩ Hão, Ciao, Yassou, Kon'nichiwa everybody!

We've had a super productive term with a focus on Performing Arts and getting ready for our Term 3 concert.

Preps have been introduced to acting through mime and improvisation. They have acted out scenarios and used feedback to improve it.  We used mime to mimick objects and spaces including:

-Throwing a basketball into the hoop

-Winning a race

-Opening a door

-Driving a car

-Playing a piano

-Winning a game

-Losing the game

-Writing a book

-Planting a seed

-Painting a portrait

-Starting a lawn mower and mowing the lawn

We built on from that to make whole class scenes, where students could work solo of in a group to build the given scene. Examples included:

-Building in the house

-At the zoo

-On an aeroplane

-At an airport

-At the beach

-At a restaurant

-Going camping

-At the movies

-At the ice cream shop

-At the hospital

We also explored creating small scripts with a focus on everyone having something to say on stage and facing the audience. Students would make dialogue and present on the stage with the questions: Did they face the audience?, did they speak clearly? , did everybody speak?.

Grade 1/2 focused on creating scripts that included mimeing objects and creating stories.

They were given scenarios to create and present to the class with 10-15 minutes of preparation. Scenarios included:

-Job interview

-Travelling through time

-Making an apology

-Meeting aliens for the first time

-In a haunted house

-Losing your wallet

-Running late

-First day at school

-Finding $1 million

We also explored acting out different emotions, using body language, facial expressions and sounds that could help our scripts and characters. We played emotion freeze, where we would dance to the music and when it stopped you had to act out the emotion called out

We improvised selling random objects to the class and convincing them that the object was a great buy and worthy purchase:

Grade 3/4 were given an assignment to create a script to act out on the stage, which a focus on creating a character and their mannerisms using mood boards on Canva. They then linked up with their classmates to plan out a script and act it out to the class or a small group.  They explored how the characters would interact and what dialogue of their characters could come up with. Towards the end of term they had the option to film their script or create a new video.

Grade 5/6 simliarly worked on scripts. They also had to include work with feedback to improve their scripts. They delved deeper into their characters writing down their voice, working on projection, pace, tension and the space that the characters would stand and move into. They used Canva to write their scripts and used mood boards to further develop the locations and add any pictures that could further develop their script. Those who had finished recorded using CapCut and the camera, focusing on recording with minimal background noise (which can be difficult in a school) and finding clear backgrounds to replicate a green screen.
