Sports Day Reflection

On the 3rd of April 2025, Sacred Heart held our annual Sports Day. Sports Day consisted of a long distance run, Kaboom Tabloid Sports and sprints.

The morning started off with all the Year Six’s setting up the house marquees. We were able to hang up our paper chains and balloons, this was so much fun! Once the marquees were all set up, we were ready to start the day. Our day started with the long distance races. The Preps had to run 2 laps, Year 1’s ran 3 laps, Year 2’s ran 4 laps, Year 3’s ran 6 laps, Year 4’s ran 8 laps and Year 5’s and 6’s ran 10 LAPS! The long distance race was really hard, but very rewarding and worthwhile.

During the middle block, we had a company called Kaboom Sports come to our school! Kaboom Sports had all sorts of mini games and sports to try out. Before we started, everyone in the school got sorted into groups within our house colours, then each group started on different activities. After a few minutes of each activity, we rotated around the basketball courts and tried out every game Kaboom Sports had set up. These activities and games were so fun and I'm sure everyone had a great time!

After lunch it was time for the sprints and we were on a roll! We won the first couple of races and started to make a comeback. Our team was chanting our hearts out and we never gave up. The sprint was a 70m run with 8 lanes. The Top 1 to 3 runners from Years 3 - 6 run would compete in the Champions Race. The winner of this race would be crowned the fastest in the school and get their name engraved onto a board with all of the winners. The scores started to get closer and we started counting our points to guess our score.

The final race of the day was the mascot race. This is just a fun race for the schools final year level to have a good time. It was finally time for Mr Weekes to announce the final points. As he started announcing the teams, tension was building. “And the winner of the 2025 Sacred Heart School Sports Day Cup Goes To.... Gold!”

We were so grateful for the opportunity to win the house cup this year and want to thank everyone for giving it their all this sports day. Throughout the day we were given points updates from Mr Weekes and Spirit updates as well. At one point we were in 3rd place and for most of the day we were second. After the long distance races, Blue House was nearly 200 points ahead!

We would like to thank Mr O’Shea and all the teachers for all their efforts and hard work during the day. We would also like to thank the Parents Association for providing us with delicious hotdogs and icy poles for lunch - they were the perfect fuel for a long day!

Mandarin Day - Wednesday 30 April

Sacred Heart will be celebrating Mandarin Day next Wednesday 30 April. Students will be engaged in a range of activities to celebrate and help them better understand the Chinese culture. The day will involve all students and staff participating in a number of different activities relating to Chinese culture. These activities include a Chinese dance incursion, Chinese traditional games and Chinese craft. Students are encouraged to dress in clothing that has some Chinese cultural elements. This could be a formal Chinese costume or clothing that incorporates the colours red and gold. Our generous Parents' Association will be supplying a Chinese snack consisting of mini vegetable spring rolls, mini beef dim sims and a fortune cookie.

Thank you to Mrs Bei Chen and Mrs Wendy Chen for organising the day.

St Kevin's Community Service

We are pleased to be a partner in St Kevin's College Community Service Program again this year. Each Wednesday afternoon, we welcome Year 10 students who will be timetabled to support both staff and students at Sacred Heart Kew. The aim of the program is for the secondary students to develop an awareness of and empathy with people in the wider community.
