Learning, growing and celebrating together...

Dear Sacred Heart Kew Families,

Welcome back! I hope that the school holidays and Easter celebration were an enjoyable time for you and your family. It has been great catching up with everyone, hearing about your holiday adventures. I look forward to chatting further with you all as we make our way into the term.

As we continue the Season of Easter, we are reminded of God’s love for us all and the power and healing of his love. The miracle of Easter saw Jesus rise from the dead, offering new life to all and a fresh start. We thank God for this beautiful gift each and every day. We also thank God for the life, service and example of Pope Francis, who died in Rome, early Monday morning. As we all know, Pope Francis chose his papal name in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, a symbol of poverty, humility, and care for creation. As much as one can do when elected as the Pope, Pope Francis lived his life in a simple, yet impactful way, supporting the marginalised and promoting peace and reconciliation for all. He served his people right up to the very end, appearing in public for his Easter Sunday blessing at the Vatican’s St Peter’s Square, just hours before his death. A life well lived, a fine model to us all, a humble and modest individual who will be missed by many Catholics right around the world.

Tomorrow, we pause for ANZAC Day, as we remember all the men and women who have given their lives in wars and conflicts over the years, protecting us and our country, allowing us the many freedoms we enjoy today. We also remember those men and women who are still in other countries, trying to make people’s lives safer around the world, each and every day. This year we commemorate the 110-year anniversary of the landing of the Australian and New Zealand Army Corps troops at Gallipoli. For some of us this might involve attending a Dawn or Commemorative Service, a Veteran’s March, or another Anzac Day event. It might just entail just finding a moment within the day to pause and remember those who have given their lives so we may live in peace today.

They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old;

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning

We will remember them.

                                                                            Lest We Forget

Wishing everyone a lovely Anzac Day long weekend and Term Two.

Kind Regards,
