Chatham Happenings

Dear Chatham Families,
The beautiful flowers and card arrived at my home last week.
Thank you, it means so much to be so appreciated. I miss every one of you already and I expect to be back for the start of Term 2.
I have included some photos of the flowers and card, and one of me just for the record.
I hope you all have a wonderful Easter, and I am already looking forward to seeing you all again soon.
Lots of love,
Helen ❤️
Year 1/2 - Incursion 'The Amazing Maisy'
This term, the Year 1/2 students have been learning about sound, briefly touching on our other senses.
We were lucky enough to be visited by Dorothy, her husband Allan, and 'The Amazing Maisy'. Dorothy is blind and works as a volunteer for Guide Dogs Victoria.
Students formulated questions in preparation for the incursion and learnt about the important things to remember when you meet a guide dog.
Dorothy gave a rundown of her experience of becoming blind, introduced us to her cane, 'Wilson', and her guide dog, 'The Amazing Maisy'. She demonstrated how Maisy responds to her needs and her awesome new Meta glasses. The kids were amazed by how they could describe what was in front of Dorothy - how cool!
Some student questions:
• Can you read?
• What did you do when you were blind but did not have a guide dog?
• How do you get dressed or have a drink?
Dorothy highlighted how important our senses are and the different ways to get by if we lose or don not have one of our senses.
The students finished with a pat of Maisy once her harness was off and she had stopped working.
It was a lovely and informative way to spend a Tuesday morning.
