It’s important to remember that everyone faces challenges at times, and no one should have to go through them alone. Let’s take this opportunity to reach out, check in on one another, and remind ourselves that it’s okay to ask for help. A simple conversation can make a big difference.
And it is okay if you are not okay. Your voice matters, you deserve to be heard, and you are always (and will always be) loved and appreciated. Speak to your family, a friend, a teacher or another trusted person - get the help and support that you need.
And if you think that someone you know may be dealing with some problems, a small act of kindness or a simple conversation can go a long way to show that you care.
International Transgender Day of Visibility was marked on 31 March. I take this opportunity on behalf of myself and the SRC to highlight that days like these are super important. I want to acknowledge that transgender, non-binary and gender diverse people have always, and will always, exist. This day was a great opportunity to raise awareness on the importance of transgender voices and experiences, and regardless of any current events regarding laws, Transgender people deserve to be who they are. You are seen, you are heard, you are loved, and there will always be a place for you here.
Lastly, IDAHOBIT (International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia) was officially marked on Saturday 17 May. This is an annual event to raise awareness on the discrimination faced by the LGBTQIA+ community. This day is a reminder of the ongoing struggle against prejudice, and a reminder that more inclusive spaces for queer people, and that queer rights will always be important. There is always a space for anyone of LGBTQIA+ community here at BSC.
Remember that at BSC we have a lovely Wellbeing Team, with Wellbeing Officers attached to Senior, Middle and Junior Schools. You can contact Jacqui, Cathy or Ross directly, via any teacher or via your Year Level Coordinator or Home Group teacher. Don't hesitate to reach out and seek support - it is important that you do.
Also, the SRC will add links to mental health resources and information on your Teams Year Level channel - so take a moment to see what is available.
