Term 1 Focus – Positive Start

Term 1 has been filled to the brim with activity, energy and excellence — from our Year 7 and Year 12 camps, swimming sports, NAPLAN, school photos, VCE study sessions, music performances, Open Nights and more. Somehow, amidst it all, we’ve also managed to squeeze in some high-quality teaching and learning across the school.

A particular highlight of the term was our recent Open Night, where we welcomed prospective students and their families into our school community. Close to 200 current students gave up their evening to act as ambassadors for Belmont High School — welcoming over 1000 guests, running activities, performing, touring families and sharing their own experiences. Their pride in our school, maturity, and enthusiasm was simply outstanding. I want to offer my thanks and congratulations to every one of them — you represented us brilliantly.

The positive momentum we’ve built this term has set us up beautifully for the remainder of the year. A huge thank you to all students, staff, and families for the role you’ve played in making Term 1 such a success.

I wish everyone a safe and relaxing Easter break, and I look forward to seeing our students back next term, ready to keep striving for their best.

Students of the Month

At Belmont High School, we believe that strong learning behaviours are the foundation of academic success and personal growth. That’s why we’re excited to continue our “Student of the Month” award – a regular opportunity to celebrate students who consistently go above and beyond in their approach to learning.

These awards are not just about high grades – they recognise students who demonstrate commitment, positivity, and pride in their learning and their school. Using student reports as a starting point, teachers will nominate individuals who best reflect the following criteria:

Consistent effort and application in class and a strong work ethic across their studies.
A positive attitude towards learning, their peers, and the school community.
Preparedness for learning, including correct uniform, the right materials, and staying focused during class.
Emerging leadership qualities shown in the classroom setting.
Strong academic achievement or noticeable growth in their learning over time.

On Wednesday at our school assembly we got to celebrate our first group of students for the year. Their example helps set the tone for what it means to be a learner at Belmont High School.

2025 Italy Tour

Best of luck to our 13 students embarking on an incredible three-week journey to Italy! This tour is a fantastic opportunity for them to immerse themselves in Italian culture, exploring historic and vibrant cities such as Florence, Venice, and Rome. Beyond the sights, students will embrace the local way of life—practising their language skills, experiencing Italian traditions, and hopefully enjoying plenty of pasta and gelato along the way!

A special thank you to our staff for their dedication in organising this experience. These opportunities provide lifelong memories and invaluable learning beyond the classroom. We look forward to hearing all about their adventures upon their return!

School Tours

Throughout Term 2, we’re offering the opportunity for families to take a closer look at Belmont High School in action. On Mondays and Wednesdays at 9:30am, I’ll be running guided tours of the school during regular classes — giving you the chance to step into learning spaces, see our students engaged in their work, and get a real feel for the vibrant culture of our school.

These tours are aimed primarily at prospective families who are considering joining our community, but I’d also love to welcome current parents who might be curious to take a “sticky beak” behind the scenes and see first-hand the fantastic learning that takes place every day.

It’s a great way to gain insight into our classrooms, our values, and the everyday experiences that shape our students.

Belmont High School’s 70th Anniversary Celebration

This year marks 70 years of Belmont High School, and we are excited to celebrate this milestone with our school community! To honour our history and achievements, we will be hosting a special Open Day on Wednesday, 7th May, providing an opportunity for past and present students, staff, and families to reconnect and reflect on our journey.

We invite you to join us for a tour of the school, followed by refreshments:

Before and after school supervision

Belmont High School’s grounds are supervised by school staff from 8:35am until 3:40pm Monday to Friday. Outside of these hours, school staff will not be available to supervise students.

Before school there are two staff members on duty from 8:35am – 9.00am.

Area along Rotherham Street
Area around all of the Learning Centres.

After School there are 3 staff on duty:

near the Digby Avenue entrance
at the bus stop on Rotherham Street
at the PAC carpark

Students who attend pre-arranged supervised activities at school outside of these hours are required to report to their supervising staff member.
