INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY BREAKFAST - STUDENT REFLECTION
On Thursday the 6th of March, Ms Goode, Bu Maddy, Evie Rau, Chloe Mackay, Emily Costa and I went to the International Women's Day Breakfast at GMHBA Stadium. Along with many other girls from schools around Geelong we arrived at 7am and took our seats in the Captains Room. Our guest speaker for the event was Amy Gardener, a tourism advisor, who told us all about her achievements and struggles as a person but also as a woman in her industry. Over the course of the breakfast we got to listen to many other projects the Soroptimists International Society was doing and the many lives of young girls they are changing. Overall it was a very interesting and fun experience that we are glad to have been given the opportunity to attend.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP CONFERENCE - STUDENT REFLECTIONS
On Thursday the 27th of March, the Year 12 Captains, House Captains and the Junior School Captains went to the Youth Leadership Academy Australia in Melbourne. We started our day by arriving at the train station at 7:00am to take a train to the Melbourne Convention Centre. Once we had arrived we settled into our seats and the fun began. We were challenged and pushed to think further about our ideas of leadership and how we could make our ideas come to life. We listened to many entertaining speakers who spoke of their own struggles and also how they have helped others with their struggles. We did many activities throughout the day from icebreakers, games and much much more. Overall it was an amazing experience and everyone really enjoyed the day.

Being a leader isn't just about being the loudest in the room or having a shiny badge. It's about integrity and having the drive to have a positive impact on the world around you.

GEELONG YOUTH COUNCIL ADVISORY COMMITTEE - LACY YOUNG 8G
This year I have the honor of being in the 2025 Geelong Youth Council Advisory Committee. As a youth councillor, I attend monthly meetings and brainstorm with my peers how to improve the lives of all youth in our community. At these meeting, guests come in asking for our advice on many different things. For example, people from an architecture firm recently came to us asking for ways to improve the new women and children’s ward that is being built in the Geelong Hospital.
Being a member in this council has also provided me with many different opportunities. One of these includes speaking as a panel member at the 2025 Women in Community Life Awards. I was up on stage with another youth councilor and two older women. I was asked questions about gender equality in Geelong and answered in front of 150 people. Recently I also recorded an advertisement that is being played on Spotify, the Pulse Radio station and at the village cinemas. In addition to this I attended my first of four councillors connect mentoring program (CCMP). During this meeting I spoke with nine of Geelong’s current councillors. My peers and I told them about what our goals are as this year’s youth council and we asked them questions about their jobs as councillors.
Lastly on the school holidays I am participating in YACVIC training (Youth Affairs Council Victoria). This will teach me how to further improve my leadership skills as well as teach me about youth advocacy.

INTER-HOUSE DODGEBALL TOURNAMENT
Congratulations to VERDE (Green) – Year 7 Inter-House Dodgeball Champions!
A huge congratulations to VERDE, who claimed victory over RED in an action-packed Year 7 Inter-House Dodgeball Grand Final! The competition was fierce, with both teams displaying outstanding skill, strategy, and sportsmanship.
This tournament was a fantastic showcase of our school values. Players demonstrated respect through great sportsmanship, supporting both teammates and opponents. It provided an opportunity for all students to get involved, develop new skills and develop House spirit. The competition also highlighted resilience, with teams showing determination and perseverance in the face of tough competition.
A special mention to all Year 7 students who participated with enthusiasm and commitment. It was fantastic to see such high levels of engagement and team spirit.
A big thank you to our Year 12 House Captains, whose leadership and dedication made this event possible. Your efforts in organising and running the competition have created an exciting and memorable experience for our Year 7 students.
