Students have an incredible ability to come together and show unwavering determination when it comes to fundraising for a cause. This was once again evident at this year's Relay for Life. The event marked the 25th year of the Cancer Council running this important fundraiser in Tasmania, and it was a truly memorable occasion to be a part of. Our Year 10 students showed remarkable generosity and commitment, displaying their energy, creativity, and passion. Their dedication of time and talent to making a difference is truly inspiring.
This year, the Mount Carmel 2025 team raised an incredible $14,014, which is a phenomenal achievement. Thank you to everyone in the Mount Carmel family for your continued support of this cause.
Throughout the event, staff members asked students why they participated in Relay for Life, and their responses were both heartfelt and inspiring. Many students shared that they take part to honor loved ones affected by cancer, while others expressed a desire to raise awareness and support those currently fighting the disease. Several students also mentioned that the event fosters a strong sense of community, allowing them to make a meaningful impact and work together for a common cause.
I look forward to continuing this legacy with our students next year. With the unwavering support and energy of our Mount Carmel community, I am confident that next year’s Relay for Life will be another unforgettable experience for our Year 10 students!
Why did you join to be part of the Relay for Life Team?
I joined to support a good cause and raise money for cancer. I also wanted to bond as a year group and spend time with my friends.
What was your favourite part of Relay for Life, and why?
My favourite part was the band at the end of the night. Everyone was singing and having a really good time.
Why did you join to be part of the Relay for Life Team?
I decided to be a part of the Relay for Life Team because I have personally lost people to cancer and know people who struggle with the disease. I thought it would be a nice tribute to those my family has lost but also raise the money to help those battling though.
What was your favourite part of Relay for Life, and why?
Many parts of the two days were so much fun but I think the best part was the incredible entertainment throughout the event. The army band was definitely my favorite part. It really brought the community together, singing, dancing and just enjoying themselves.
Why did you join to be part of the Relay for Life Team?
This year I was given the privilege to join the Relay for Life team to raise awareness for both those who suffer from cancer or have loved ones who are constantly struggling every day. This cause has a very close place in my heart and means so much to my family. I was lucky enough to be a part of an amazing team, relaying for a few of my loved ones who have been affected by this terrible disease. Being able to take part in something I enjoy with my friends for such a great initiative has been an amazing opportunity that I am extremely grateful for.
What was your favourite part of Relay for Life, and why?
My favourite part of Relay for Life was being chosen to stay overnight. Although I hardly slept a wink, I was able to share these special moments with my friends, working as a team to embrace our school spirit. The Luminary Ceremony was emotional as most of us have been affected by cancer in various ways, but to lighten the mood, activities such as the silent disco, dances, and other music were around.
Why did you join to be a part of the relay for life team?
Last year I originally signed up because the thought of fundraising for a good cause sounded fun…but early this year our family got the news that my auntie had been diagnosed with breast cancer, this made me determined to raise as much money as I could.
What was your favourite part of relay for life and why?
My favourite part of relay for life was the community around me. The team spirit was high and everybody was there for the same positive reasons…seeing everybody be so connected by the effects of something so devastating was moving…walking with my friends and family made my experience even more special.
