The Power of Words

At St Pius X College, our community is strengthened not just through our shared values and mission but also through the way we communicate with one another. The recent Open Day provided a wonderful opportunity to witness the warmth and authenticity of our students as they interacted with visiting families.

One of the most significant aspects of our Open Day was the way our students naturally engaged with prospective families. Whether leading tours, answering questions, or simply offering a friendly greeting, our students demonstrated the confidence, respect, and generosity of spirit that define the culture of St Pius X College. Their ability to articulate their experiences and share their enthusiasm for learning left a lasting impression on our visitors.

A prospective parent shared with me how impressed they were by the genuine welcome they received. They noted how students not only spoke with clarity and passion about their school but also took the time to acknowledge and engage with their younger children. Another visitor remarked on the students’ willingness to share their personal learning journeys, speaking with pride about their teachers, subjects, and co-curricular activities.

Such interactions reflect the deep sense of belonging and community that exists within our College. The power of words—whether words of encouragement, gratitude, or simply a warm greeting—helps to build relationships and foster a culture of mutual respect. It is through these small but meaningful exchanges that we see the true character of our students and the impact of their education at St Pius X College.

This sense of warmth and engagement is not confined to Open Day alone. Visitors to our College throughout the year consistently comment on the respectful and welcoming nature of our students. A simple greeting in the corridors, a willingness to assist a guest, or a genuine 'thank you' to their teacher at the end of a lesson all contribute to an atmosphere of kindness and respect that defines our school.

Our Open Day was not just about showcasing facilities or programs; it was about experiencing the spirit of our school through the voices and actions of our students. I thank them for being outstanding ambassadors of the College and for exemplifying the values that make St Pius X a place of welcome, respect, and excellence. I also extend my gratitude to our dedicated staff, whose ongoing support and encouragement continue to foster such a positive culture within our community.

Jesus, You spoke to people in ways that changed their lives.

You spoke with words of gentleness:

‘Come to me all who are tired from carrying heavy loads,

and I will give you rest.’ (Matthew 11:28)

You spoke words of reassurance:

‘Courage my daughter! Your faith has made you well.’ (Luke 8:48)

You spoke words of challenge, grounded in compassion:

‘Let the one among you who is without sin

be the first to cast a stone.’ (John 8:7)

May our homes and our classrooms be places of many kind words.

Amen.
