'Call Out For Nick: A Family's Loss, A Father's Plea'

An Evening with Daniel Campo

Each year, the Trinity College Parent Council (TCPC) hosts a speaker night with the key motivation to get together as parents and/or students to share knowledge and inspiration through different lenses. In 2025, the TCPC has locked in two, with our first having been held on Wednesday night.

Titled 'Call Out For Nick: A Family's Loss, A Father's Plea' - An Evening with Daniel Campo', the event focused on the ever-important subject of road safety. As a council, we brought the subject to the table for discussion, and with the support and guidance of the College Leadership Team, we reached out to Daniel Campo, who tragically lost his 18 year old son Nick last year in a preventable motor vehicle incident.

The focal point was not just about road safety campaigns and the devastating outcomes that can transpire, but when the connections are closer to home than we realise. It is the six-degrees of separation of these incidents that brings more meaning and relevance to us as a community. The fact that Nick attended Aquinas College and played PSA Football and Cricket with many of our old boys gave the night’s presentation so much more meaning; it was worth telling the story first-hand.

Nick’s father, Daniel Campo, and Nick's two best friends, Jesse and Jack, gave compelling and heartfelt speeches about their loss and the need for attitudinal changes in drivers and passengers alike. More so, it was about calling out your mates… Call Out anyone that wants to drink and drive; Call Out anyone who is distracted whilst driving; Call Out anyone driving erratically; Call Out anyone that you know who is fatigued and continues to drive. These are some of the points the Campo family want to emphasise through their road safety campaign, Call Out for Nick

It was an emotional evening with some hard truths, honest experiences and some hard-to-hear facts about what happened on that fateful night. The Council received immediate feedback from many parents who attended, to let us know that in the car ride home, they had valuable conversations with their sons and daughters about the night’s content.

As always, the TCPC appreciate the continued support from the College Leadership Team,

teachers, staff, and parents for their time in attending such events throughout the year.

World of Maths Day

Last Monday 10 March over 200 Year 6 and 7 students had the pleasure of taking part in the World of Maths Day at the school.

In groups of 3 or 4, students were  encouraged to work together, and engage as a team to discuss strategies to help them  solve the numerous problems presented. All while developing problem-solving skills to allow them to build confidence in their maths abilities.

Hands-on activities have many benefits for students. And it’s not just about reinforcing maths concepts – the activities encourage participation, boost confidence and spark a love of learning Maths.

Thank you to World of Maths for providing the opportunity and all staff for supporting the day.

A Message from Gloucester Park

Families visiting Trinity College are asked to please refrain from parking their cars in front of the Gloucester Park access gates - in particular at GP Gate 7 (corner of Braithwaite Street and Sailani Avenue), and GP Gate 8 (across from the basketball courts). This includes at drop-off/pick-up times.

The Gloucester Park team are entitled to use their own gates at any time, though this is especially important on Tuesday and Friday afternoons when racing takes place. At these times, the gates needs to be completely accessible for GP staff, patrons, clients and horses - even if the gates aren't open, they still need to be accessible.

Families are also reminded that the use of Gloucester Park (internally) as a public parking area is not permitted unless specifically advised by the College. This is particularly relevant on Saturday mornings, as horses and their teams are on-site at Gloucester Park for training purposes.

If you park your vehicle in Gloucester Park on Saturday mornings, you are at risk of your vehicle being locked in, and would be directly responsible for organising for your vehicle to be released (potentially at a personal fee).
