Year 3 News
Healesville Sanctuary
As soon as we got off the bus, I was really excited to see all the animals.
First, we saw some birds, like the Helmeted Honey Eater. Also, we looked at the bird cages, and we got to design our own. I was Nate’s partner.
Then we had recess. It was really fun!
We went to the koalas and the kangaroos - they were pretty cute and majestic. After that, we went to the bird show. It’s called ‘Birds of Prey’.
It was super cool - a bird almost landed on my head!
Then, we went to see the Tasmanian Devil. He was hiding from us. Then we went to the place where the nocturnal animals.
Finally, we had lunch and then we got back on the bus so we could get back to school.
It was one of the best school excursions ever!

Healesville Sanctuary Recount
First, we arrived at school at 8.15am. We went inside and quickly called the roll. We lined up and went on the bus and drove off. It took about 1 hour to get to Healesville.
When we got there, we got a good greeting.
We went straight to a place where we got shown a bird box and after getting shown the bird box, we got to design are own bird box.
I got pared up with Xavier. We designed a bird box. It was pretty cool! After we did that, we went to the koala exbibit, but most of them were sleeping. Some were awake and eating. They were so cute. Next, we went to the kangaroos - they were so jumpy.
After that we went to the bird show. It was amazing! Miss Evins called me ‘tour leader’ as I led the class by following the signs.
We also went to the Tasmania Devil, Echidna, and a giant bird home and saw so many birds. Finally, we headed back to the front entrance and had lunch. Then we went back to school.
It was an incredible day!

Factual Narrative -
Cherry the Asian Elephant
Last week we read to the Year Ones. We read our factual narrative on an Endangered Animal. My endangered animal was an Asian Elephant, and some other people wrote about an Australian endangered animal.
It took a long time to write our stories on our laptop but soon after, we got to illustrate our books that we have been working on.
On every page we had to make it ‘POP’ and we had to draw our endangered animal. When we were happy with our stories, we had to show our teacher.
Soon we were ready to show our books to the Year Ones. Everyone was really excited to show their books to the Year Ones.
Later that day we saw some of the year ones playing outside. I think they liked our books a lot! Everyone got to read to at least 5 Year One students before they left. We had so much fun reading to the Year Ones and writing our stories!

Factual Narrative -
I Speak for the Animals
Last Friday we finally got to read our factual narrative on endangered Australian animals to the Year Ones.
It was so fun! It took us ages to finish them.
Firstly, all the Year Threes had to choose an endangered Australian animal. This could be tricky but, in the end, everyone decided on the animal that was right for them.
Secondly, we had to type our story. Our story had to have a problem on why the animal was endangered in real life, then we had to think of a solution to try and help it.
Thirdly, after our stories were typed on our laptop they had to be printed and illustrated.
Then the big day arrived! Everyone was bursting with excitement. The Year Ones loved our stories and on the plus side everyone got to read to at least 5 Year Ones before they left.
When they left everyone was buzzing with pride! We were so proud that the hard work paid off.

Student-Led Conference
Last Tuesday and Wednesday we had our Student-Led Conference. A student-led conference is where the students show their parents all the work they have been doing in class. The parents stayed for about 15 minutes to have their conference.
We showed them our workbooks, laptops, things in our classroom and then we played a maths game. The day before our conference we filled in a sheet with our 3 Stars and a Wish.
This was three things we think we learnt really well and one thing we would like to improve.
My conference went really well as I showed my Mum my math and inquiry book and then I showed her all around the classroom. The student led conference was heaps of fun!
My brother Jack also had heaps of fun as he sat on Miss Evins chair and pretended to work on her laptop. Miss Evins took a photo of him!
I can’t wait to do it again next year!

Student-Led Conference
A couple of weeks ago, on a Tuesday and Wednesday after school, the Year 3’s had their Student-Led Conference. It was really fun!
Let us tell you about it…
Firstly, our parents arrived at our classroom after school.
We welcomed our parents as they walked in the door. Our parents were given a sheet full of questions that they could ask us. We also showed them our 3 Stars and a Wish sheet.
We got out our laptops and showed them our Digital Portfolio on OneNote, and our PowerPoints. After we showed our parents our work on our laptops, we got to show them all our work around the room. For example, our holiday spinners, wonder wall, kindness challenge, footy jumpers and the 3D shapes.
Soon after, we could show our work in our books like our maths book, writing in our learning journal and our inquiry books.
Finally, we played a maths game with our parents. It was called Chasing the Magic Number. It was great fun!
When it was time to finish, we said “Thank you for coming.”
We thought it was really fun and are looking forward to doing it again next year!
Thanks for reading! 😊
