House Athletics 2024
On Thursday 22 August the year 4-6 students and staff headed down to the Sandy Aths track for yet another year of hurdling, jumping, throwing, endurance running and sprinting.
Every student had the experience of running a 100m, 200m and 800m race, throwing a shot put and discus, having contests to throw the vortex as far as possible and long jumping into the pit as well as trying hard to Hop, Step and Jump! There were plenty of smiles as we handed out many, many ribbons and lots of resilience for those who didn’t quite get a ribbon. Everyone tried their best and had FUN in the glorious sunshine😊.
To begin the day, we had all our hurdle finalists compete in front of all the staff and students which is always a good start to the carnival and to finish the day we had a Staff vs House captains relay race.
The staff team in order of start to finish- Ms Jones (baton starter as she often fumbles with receiving the baton!!)to pass to Mr Ross who pounded down the back straight with a very cheesy grin on his face to Mrs Hall who ran the curve in lightning speed to hand to Mr Farmer who sprinted so fast no one saw him even cross the finish line- he did in FIRST place again for the umpteenth time in a row. Looking back, I think the staff have never lost a race at the Athletics carnival. Super speedy lot at BNPS!
House captains and a team from Beaumaris Secondary college had little to no chance of beating the staff but HEY that’s what we pride ourselves on- Beating the year 6 students😊
The final House results for the day
1st Place- WOOD 603 points
2nd place- RESERVE 598 points
3rd place – MCDONALD 465 points
4th place – MOREY 544 points
House spirit Award- RESERVE
Thanks to all the staff who helped out for the day to make it an enjoyable and happy experience for all students not just the sporty ones. Special thanks to Jen B and Kerryn for tabulating the scores and handing out ribbons.
It was lovely to see Mrs Duffy venture out into the sunshine and cheer on the 100m sprint heats too.
Those students who were the best across their year levels will now progress to the District Athletics carnival at Duncan McKinnon on Tuesday 17 September. This year we have a team of approx. 70 students who will represent BNPS at this event. Congratulations to all those students.

Year 5/6 Intra House Athletics Competition
During term 3, we've been celebrating the Olympics with our year 5 and 6 students participating in their own Olympic/athletics competitions during Friday morning sports sessions.
Each week, students from each House rotate through two different events, vying for the honour of becoming the House Champion. Winning an event earns 5 points, second place gets 4 points, third place 3 points, and fourth place 2 points. All other participants who complete the event earn a point for their House and for themselves. These points are accumulated over the four-week rotation across eight events, and the individuals with the highest points in their House are crowned House Champions.
The students have taken part in events such as Hurdles, Long Jump, High Jump, Shot Put, Discus, Vortex, 200m, and relays. We also held a small ribbon ceremony for year 3, and the awardees were as follows:
