Term 3
Friday 19th July
Dear Mitcham Primary School Families and Friends,
Welcome back to Term 3! I hope you all had a restful and enjoyable break. It is wonderful to see the school buzzing with energy again as we embark on another exciting term of learning and growth.
Firstly, I am thrilled to share the fantastic news about our recent NAPLAN results. Our students have achieved outstanding scores, significantly surpassing those of similar and network schools in the areas of Reading, Writing, and Numeracy. This is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our students, teachers, and the support from our families. Well done to everyone involved!
Over the holidays, we have made some exciting upgrades to our facilities. The flagpole courtyard has been re-asphalted, providing a safer and more appealing space for our students. Keep an eye out for the new colourful line markings that will be added soon. Additionally, we have replaced the roof of the Performing Arts Centre (PAC), ensuring a better environment for our students' creative endeavours. This term, our focus will shift to designing and planning the replacement of our Junior School and Tirana Street playgrounds. We look forward to creating vibrant and engaging play spaces for our students.
One of the highlights of this first week back has been watching Linkhon, one of our Grade 5 students, participate in the State Cross Country Championships at the very muddy Yarra Valley Racecourse on Thursday. Congratulations to Linkhon for an incredible effort, finishing 39th out of 102 under-11 male competitors. What an achievement!
As we look forward to this term, we have a brilliant lineup of teaching, learning, and celebrations planned. Next week, we are excited to support the understanding of First Nations Perspectives within the Victorian Curriculum with a special performance by Mitch Tambo. A proud Gamilaraay man, Mitch Tambo blends traditional Aboriginal sounds and language with contemporary beats and production. This will be a unique and enriching experience for our students.
Following this, we have a host of events to look forward to, including Book Week, Science Week, Olympics Day, and the Grade 3/4 camp, Grade 2 camp day, Grade 1 excursion to Healesville Sanctury, Cycle 3 excursion to the Aquarium and more. These events provide wonderful opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and create lasting memories.
I would also like to remind families with children starting prep next year to enrol as soon as possible. Enrolments close on 26th July and places will be offered on 29th July. Please contact the office if you need any assistance with the enrolment process.
Thank you for your continued support. Here’s to a fantastic Term 3 filled with learning, achievements, and celebrations!
Warmly,
