Year 12 ATAR Geography Field Work Excursion

On Tuesday, 30 July, the two Year 12 Geography classes combined to complete field work studies in the Perth CBD and surrounding areas.

As a group, students conducted fieldwork to investigate the significant challenges of urban sprawl and transportation issues facing the Perth metropolitan area, and determining whether these challenges are being adequately addressed.

Relying on public transport to travel to across Perth’s CBD and a selection of inner-city suburbs (see excursion map below) the students recorded the various urban processes in motion which constantly change the structure and character of urban spaces.

The final site visited for the day was the SubiEast redevelopment project. Situated on the now demolished Subiaco Stadium, the boys examined how this former stadium is in the process of being transformed into a new housing and community precinct, while at the same time seeking to preserve the character and history of this long established residential area.
