5/6 Swimming Program at YAWA

Over the past three weeks our senior students have been wowing onlookers at YAWA with their wonderful swimming capabilities and water safety knowledge! They have worked at their level on their competencies each week. Last week, the Year 6s took part in completing their Victorian Water Safety Certificate, an initiative of the State Government to encourage schools to aim towards a standard level of swimming, surrvival skills and water safety competence.  All Year 6s who took part last Friday passed with flying colours! Congratulations!

This Friday, 16th August marks the end of the Senior Swimming Program whereby all Year 5/6 students will be tested in the St Joseph's Swim Levels that they have been working on over the past three sessions. Please ensure that your child takes part, unless they are ill.  We are very grateful for our volunteer Swim Teachers who have helped out:

Bill Green (my dad), Leigh Todd (my husband), Annabel White, Jacki Smith and Leonie Gagliardi (a long time swim volunteer at St Joseph's over the years).

Special thanks to Mrs O'Shannassy who drives 'Bluey' our school bus in 6 shuttle runs each Friday to reduce the students' time out of class.

NEW Play League Stars Program (Rugby)

A new Play League Stars Program for ages 5-12 years is being conducted as an Afterschool Program at Sorrento Primary and offered for both schools.  It is run by long-time supporter of Rugby League on the peninsula, Ali Tuai. Ali and elite player, Vaughn Williams, from the National Rugby League Ltd. came to St Joseph's to conduct free sessions for this program to all students on Monday. Here are a couple of pics!

Each year in Term 4, the 5/6s participate in a unit of Rugby League and compete in the Billy Slater Cup against the other nine schools of the Phillip District.
