Global Arts

Over the past two weeks in Global Arts, students across all year levels have been learning about Aboriginal culture through the exploration of clap sticks and the didgeridoo. This special cultural education was part of our celebration of NAIDOC Week, which occurred during the school holidays. NAIDOC Week is a significant event that honours the history, culture, and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. Although the official week fell during the holidays, we dedicated time in our first weeks back to immerse our students in the rich traditions of Australia's First Nations people. Students were introduced to the traditional use and cultural significance of the didgeridoo, learning how it is made and its role in ceremonies. They also explored the rhythmic sounds of clap sticks, understanding their importance in Aboriginal music and dance. Students gained a deeper appreciation for these traditional instruments and the broader cultural heritage they represent.
