Once upon a time, in a faraway land (in the Boorai) 65 little prep students started learning about Fairytales! We have made a deep dive into the magical lands of different Fairytales and are thoroughly enjoying learning about the different characters and ‘tricky situations’ in different stories.
It has been a fantastic start to Term 3 with our Prep students enjoying their new Investigations spaces, including Fairytale dramatic play, Puppet Theatre, Castle building, Puppet making, crafting table and even an Olympics space! The overarching theme this term is Social Justice and we are looking at fairness and friendship. Students will learn that fairness is when everyone has their needs met.
Did someone hear the fire siren? No, it’s just the Prep Friendship Firefighters coming! In Friendology students have been learning how to put out Friendship Fires. Students have learnt the steps involved in how to put out a friendship fire:
Step 1: Retell the situation
Step 2: Tell the person how it made you feel
Step 3: Continue to talk it out until the fire is out!
Please use this language with your child and encourage them to talk it out when they have a friendship issue. The goal is for the students to resolve their friendship fires independently.
In Science we have enjoyed exploring the properties of different materials and using these materials to create the 4th Little Pig - oink, oink!
It was lovely to see all of our families participate in the 3-Way-Conferences this week and see our Prep students beam with pride sharing their strengths and goals!
We would like to remind families that we will be celebrating our 100 days of school next Tuesday! We invite all the Prep students to come to school in a dress up of their choice; this could be a 100 theme, what they’d like to be when they grow up or even their favourite party outfit. Please contact your classroom teacher if you have any further questions.
Have a great weekend!

Welcome to Term 3! We can't believe how grown up the Level 1 and 2 students have become since just last term; they have dived straight into their learning with renewed vigour and interest. Well done! Students have been focusing on learning to decode words in reading. They have been learning all about suffixes, plurals and compound words.
Bang! Whizz! Pop! Students have experimented with different strategies when writing their sizzling starts. They have loved trying to 'paint a picture' or 'use dialogue' to create an interesting beginning in their narratives.
In Maths students have become experts at identifying fractions. We have learnt about halves, quarters and eighths. Ask your child to cut some fruit in half!
Classes have created their catastrophe scales and are discussing what they can solve themselves and what problems they might need help to sort out. They have been learning about making new friends and identifying their 'colourful feelings'.
The Level Ones are loving their new Investigation spaces this term. The Italian Pizza Cafe, the Movement Space, AFL Corner, Train Station and Shoe Shop are amongst the favourites.
Thank you to all families who attended the 3-Way Conferences this week. It was wonderful to celebrate our Level 1 and 2 students' successes and set goals for Terms 3 and 4.

It's been a great start to Term 3 for our 3/4 students. We've managed to fit a lot of fun and learning into the last couple of weeks.
Students have been familiarising themselves with a range of procedures, both in books and online. They have been analysing the structure and language that can be found in these. They've particularly enjoyed following some of the drawing and origami procedures when they've had the chance.
Maths has been all about multiplication. This week has seen students learning a variety of strategies to solve problems, such as the lattice and grid methods. It's been interesting to see which methods students prefer and next week will give them further opportunities to familiarise themselves with strategies of choice. You may also notice that some 'array cities' have popped up around the 3/4 classrooms! These were created last week when students represented smaller multiplication problems using arrays. Make sure you check them out and see if you can work out which multiplication problem each building is representing!
In Inquiry, we've had a lot of fun looking at 'fair vs. unfair' and this week moved on to what makes up a society. We had some robust discussions around whether societies treat people fairly or not and students shared some excellent insights and opinions on the points raised.
Earlier this week, the 3/4s cleaned up in the awards section at assembly! Congratulations to our Hall of Fame recipients, Myles Camp and Mason Walsh, as well as our Specialist Shining Star recipients, Bella Van Zyl and Yasmine Wallace.

Welcome back to Term 3! We have had a great start to the term and are looking forward to a busy few weeks ahead.
Year 6 students excitedly received their placement letters for High School last week, with acceptance forms due back August 7th. To help this be a smooth process, please bring these back to school as soon as possible.
This week, we had two netball teams compete in the Division Netball Championships. Our Girls A team and Mixed team were both undefeated for the day and will now progress to Regionals in a few weeks. Thank you to Sally Smith for coaching the mixed team and for all the parents, grandparents and siblings who came out to support the teams. Go Rolling Hills!
In the classroom we have been engaged in our learning and are particularly loving our Inquiry unit for this term – Social Justice. Students have enjoyed learning about the Rights of the Child and ethical dilemmas. They consider themselves very lucky to live in Australia where their rights are being met.
Please keep an eye out for upcoming events on Compass.
Have a great weekend!
