Junior School Report

Over the past months, Junior School across the College has been engaged in a hub of activity, and our students have truly shone in various endeavours. From representing the College at Inter school sport competitions, participating in the Victorian school music festival, to achieving exceptional results in the Australian Mathematics competition, students have continued to demonstrate their dedication, talent and determination. Opportunities continue this term where students can get involved in activities such as the Athletics Sports Carnivals, Wakakirri Dance Festival and Keysies Got Talent.

Activities around the College: Participating in Dandenong council youth programs, Junior school musical rehearsals, Humanities Gallipoli lunch, ‘Policing and you’ incursion, Intermediate Inter-school Volleyball and Year 7 Inter-school Netball

Our Year 7 students recently embarked on an exciting adventure at Camp Kangaroobie. This distinctive setting provided a valuable opportunity for them to explore, build relationships, and challenge themselves both physically and mentally. Surrounded by nature, the camp offered a refreshing break from the classroom, immersing students in a variety of outdoor activities.

From conquering high ropes courses, obstacle courses, canoeing, bush dancing and team-building exercises, each activity was crafted to inspire and challenge. For many, this camp is a highlight of the school year, and this year's experience was no exception. The shared moments of laughter and achievement fostered lasting memories and new friendships. The bonds formed during these formative days often become some of the strongest and most enduring, laying the foundation for a supportive and connected peer group throughout their schooling.

Throughout this term, Year 8 and 9 students will begin selecting their elective subjects for 2025. We encourage all students to take full advantage of this opportunity to explore new subjects and discover areas they might not have previously considered. Whether it's delving into the Arts, exploring Technology, or engaging with STEM, the elective program is designed to enhance academic experiences and spark passion. Students should consider how their choices align with their long-term goals and interests. Selecting electives that match potential career paths can offer valuable insights and skills for their future. Parents can review the elective options in the 2025 Year 9 and 10 Handbooks available on the College website.

To support our Year 9 students with making informed decisions about their future education, they recently participated in an engaging careers presentation hosted by Access Monash. This interactive session aimed to create real-world connections by aligning students' personal interests, skills, and aspirations with potential educational and career paths. The presentation highlighted the importance of early career planning and the role of further education, whilst offering valuable insights into how students can shape their future success.

Year 9 students have also commenced planning for their week long City Experience program that will take place in Week 8 for Banksia and Week 9 for Acacia Campus. As part of the preparation, the police will be making a presentation to the students about safety and good citizenship.

As we continue into the school year, it’s crucial to focus on a key factor that significantly impacts your child’s academic success: regular school attendance. Research consistently shows that consistent attendance is linked to better academic performance and long-term success. Here’s why every school day matters and how you can support your child in making the most of their educational journey.

  • Academic achievement: Students who attend school regularly are more likely to achieve higher grades. Missing school frequently can lead to falling behind, which could affect your child's VCE completion rate and future employment opportunities.
  • Skill development: School is not just about academics; it’s also where students develop crucial life skills such as time management, planning and work ethic, all of which are essential for future success in the workplace.
  • Social and emotional growth: Consistent school attendance also fosters a stable environment where students can develop their social and emotional skills, which are critical for personal growth and resilience.

Remember, every school day is an opportunity for learning and growth. Regular attendance ensures that your child receives the full benefit of their education and stays on track to meet their academic goals. At Keysborough Secondary College we are committed to supporting your child’s success both academically and personally. By working together, we can help them develop the skills and habits they need to thrive.
