Shining a light on Student Service to our Community

National Student Volunteer Week will be celebrated across Australia from 5 to 11 August 2024.

This week-long celebration ‘shines a light’ on the contributions of student volunteers, and actively promotes volunteering among students and young people. It also provides an opportunity to acknowledge the impact that student volunteers make through voluntary service to their communities.

I take this opportunity to celebrate and acknowledge all students at Moama Anglican Grammar who are giving back to their community through different forms of voluntary service.

A specific and noteworthy example of voluntary service to our local community that I celebrate is Year 11 student, Jaxson Biggs.

In the midst of his school commitments, Jaxson volunteers at Echuca Regional Health, assisting the Emergency Department one day a week on Monday afternoons.

He assists by packing the storage room, preparing tea and coffee, cleaning beds, checking in on patients to see how they are going and gives them some company while they’re in hospital.

I publicly acknowledge and commend Jaxson for his outstanding voluntary service to our community.

As we approach National Student Volunteer week, I encourage all members of the Moama Anglican Grammar community to reflect on the most critical role that volunteers play in supporting a thriving community.

Gestures of kindness and compassion through voluntary service to others can change people lives.

Congratulations, Jaxson, and thank you for the care that you provide for others.
